DEATH REHEARSAL 5: ACTUAL DEATH

  • Death Rehearsal is Dead! Long Live Death Rehearsal! Bad Bar and Deathrage Collective are excited to present the final Death Rehearsal, a semi-regular evening of freaky electronic music from the Pacific Northwest. Featuring some of the most exciting up-and-coming, DIY, and experimental electronic artists out of the PNW, Death Rehearsal #5 will include hardware sets from HOUS3R, Aria Bare, Nonlethal Weapons, Fleetwood Snack, and Raica. The evening will kick off with a DJ set by Shoyei. And to ice this big fat cake, Death Reherasal #5 is also the release party for Death Rehearsal Volume 1, a Deathrage Records compilation album featuring past and present Death Rehearsal performers. But on to the more serious questions: Why is Death Rehearsal dying? Why must we bury such a beloved event in such a shallow grave? The short answer is that David (aka Occult A/V aka Nonlethal Weapons), who has organized the event since the beginning, is moving to New Orleans. Does this mean that Death Rehearsal is truly dead? Well, if you believe in Jesus or zombies then perhaps, just perhaps, this death is only temporary. But for now, Death Rehearsal is dead. Long live Death Rehearsal. Let's celebrate the life and death of a short lived but absolutely ripping night of electronic music. Come for the vibes and stay for all the friends you made along the way. You only die twice so make it count. Now on to the freaks with the beats: HOUS3R (fka Larch Larix) is a Seattle-based electronic musician whose live hardware sets explore the darker, more aggressive side of techno while remaining infectiously danceable. Heavy and pulsing, HOUS3R’s chopped, rhythmic vocal samples and bitcrushed synths are as liable to open the mosh pit as they are the dance floor. Aria Bare is a queer techno producer and DJ based out of Portland, Oregon. Aria's emotionally charged warehouse techno blends aggressive rhythms with swirling synths and distorted ambient soundscapes. Aria is also one half of the techno duo Stepsisters, a collaboration with Seattle's Mirin Doja. Nonlethal Weapons is a new noise techno project of David Kumler, known in Seattle’s underground electronic scene for his hip-hop and ambient inspired work as Occult A/V and more broadly for his work as half of the postpunk/darkwave outfit Foxxxy Mulder. Inspired by noise and techno artists like Container, Silent Servant, and Lower Tar—as well as hardcore bands like End It, Bad Brains, and Mammoth Grinder—Nonlethal Weapons uses distorted 909s, granular synthesis, choral samples, and harsh vocals to create something that merges punk with techno in a dark, dirty, and basically fucked up way. Combining infectiously dancy grooves with noisewall-adjacent sonic brutality, Fleetwood Snack performs genre-defying electronic music that will kill you and resurrect you multiple times in a single performance. A key figure in Seattle's DIY scene, Fleetwood Snack also runs Seattle's Susquatch Festival and Sus Records. Raica is the alias of Seattle-based producer, DJ, and label head Chloe Harris. As a DJ, Harris has toured all over the world, including a stint opening for influential British DJ John Digweed. While Harris has gained an international reputation as a DJ and producer, her live sets offer something truly unique. As Raica, Harris performs improvisational dark ambient, techno, and experimental music that will have you both dancing and drifting off into another world. Shoyei is a producer, DJ, and synthesist working in deep, reflective sound design spanning across multiple electronic music genres. Shoyei loves exploring complex texture, sample mangling, other-worldly harmony, and destructive dissonance.
