  • This year the 7th edition of the Grounded festival, with the theme "MIR / PEACE" will take place from 24.8. - 26.8.2023 in Ljubljana / Slovenia. **** 𝐅𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐀𝐋 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐌𝐄 : 𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐄 Everyone has the right to peace, which is a condition for the realization of human rights and for development and progress. States must respect, implement and promote equality and non-discrimination, justice and the rule of law, and ensure freedom and material well-being as a means of building peace within and between societies. (Declaration on the Right to Peace, UN General Assembly, 2016) Peace is a condition for the exercise of human rights - in times of war and violence, freedom of expression, the right of assembly and association, personal freedom, privacy, freedom of religion, mental and physical inviolability and, last but not least, the right to bare life are suspended. Every war is a massive and systematic violation of human rights, its victims are adults and children without a future: killed, missing, raped, tortured, exiled and imprisoned. At the same time, the enforcement of human rights is a condition for peace. As one of this year's guests, Aida Čerkez, a journalist in Sarajevo, which has been under siege for four years, says: "Peace, but not at any price." In Palestine, the peace process is a euphemism for colonization by peaceful means, in Bosnia, the Dayton Peace Agreement is another name for the 20-year stagnation of the country and the consolidation of nationalism. Therefore, peace cannot and must not only be a state of the absence of war, but a state of justice and prosperity for all. Or as the slogan of the Black Lives Matter movement says, “No Justice, No Peace”. In conversations, lectures and round tables with theoreticians and people with experience of war, members of peace movements, journalists, war reporters and artists, we will ask ourselves whether peace is an unconditional value or whether it has a price; what is the international architecture of peace and whether it is still able to respond to the demands of contemporary conflicts; what place do social and economic rights occupy in the international system of guaranteeing human rights and lasting peace; if there is a just war, there is a just revolution - what is the relationship between the two? The musical part of the festival, following the most current guidelines, presents the most exciting phenomena of post-club, experimental and daring electronic music for the seventh year in a row, this year again at various club locations at AKC Metelkova. We are also announcing the first Grounded VA Compilation, that brings together local and foreign musicians who have performed at our previous editions or who will present themselves for the first time this year as part of the festival’s lineup. All proceeds from physical and digital sales will support Ukraine's efforts for justice and peace. 𝑨𝑩𝑶𝑼𝑻 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑭𝑬𝑺𝑻𝑰𝑽𝑨𝑳 Grounded is a queer festival of nishe electronic music, critical thinking and activism, that addresses current social issues by combining the seemingly incompatible: deinstitutionalised theoretical debates, everyday social activism and progressive electronic club culture. Through debates, projections, presentations, music performances and hangouts – the baselines of which are equality irrespective of personal circumstances, solidarity with the weak and the autonomy to govern your own fate – the participants seek relevant, eligible and responsible answers to the contemporary challenges. The first edition of the festival was held in 2015 with the theme Autonomy of migration. The theme in 2018 was Intimacy in the age of artificial intelligence, in 2019 Automation and Power, in 2020 Truth, in 2021 The State and last year’s theme was Responsibility.
