Loud Minority Osaka

  • Butter Butter started DJing in 1997 and soon after was hosting a pirate FM radio show and producing parties while underage. He has since contributed to many facets of music and dance culture: hosted shows for online radio (NTS, The Lot), organized parties in several continents, worked in record stores, directed event artwork and visuals, produced at TV show on rave culture (90s), and played in both illegal and carefully crafted venues (Cedar Room, Nowadays, Brilliant Corners, Musicland). Over the last 25 years he developed an affinity for deep, unique and uncommon music while maintaining his original philosophy of the craft — a focus on the dancefloor — without modern forms of self-promotion. Today he freelances and works with The Mixtape Club as music and design director. Monchan Sometimes one travels all around the world collecting experiences and in the end, brings it all home. DJ Monchan took this type of journey starting in the Takamatsu Japanese countryside/mountain town leaping into life in New York City in the early 1990s to chase the records he heard and dug for after finding inspiration from DJs like Master AT Work, Def Mix Production. He also went to find his people and a lifeline through records. Monchan spoke no English when he arrived and worked tirelessly to learn a new language, boldly enrolling in a studio engineering program in hopes he could put it all together. His excitement motivated him to take these risks in a new country and eventually landed him in a position to become a part of New York City’s vibrant underground music world. Not only did he regularly visit iconic venues in the city like Sound Factory, Sound Factory Bar, Tunnel, Twilo and Paradium, his connections and friendships even lead him to find David Mancuso’s seminal Loft party by accident one night. He established his place in the music culture, working behind the scenes at several record outlets. Toiling beside legends such as Charlie Grappone from Vinylmania enhanced his appreciation for house and disco. At EKS Vinyl Plant, he learned about and took part in production. For 10 years, he was the dance music buyer at New York City landmark record store A1 Records. After the global pandemic changed everything for Toshi and his partner in Cedar Room , DJ Yuki, they made the hard decision to leave New York City to return to Japan to expand the Cedar Room experience into a Japan. Monchan’s output comes in many forms. As a DJ he created dreamy 7+ hour musical soundscapes for Cedar Room, a party he started in his apartment on Cedar Street in Brooklyn and grew over 15 years. Toshi was primarily the musical conductor but he also welcomed legends like Mike Huckaby, Kai Alce, Ge-Ology, and Scott Grooves there to open the dance floor and bring wild music to devoted dancers who followed the party religiously Moved to contribute to an underground community, DJ Monchan directs and operates Dailysession.com, where he spins and hosts local, upcoming DJs as well as established veterans. There he provides a platform where he and his friends upload mixed sets, broadcast live music and post art, photography, flyers and info of upcoming events you should definitely check out. Not surprisingly from his devotion of putting together mixed sets, Toshi, as he is known to his friends, has grown into a producer. With already over 40 releases on his own Dailysessions Records Label and the EP and singles on GAMM, Downtown 304, Razor N Tape, Stilove4music,Cut My Records, Just What the World Needs, he continues to pave the way for his passion.
