Watch three artists weave their sounds together in an improvised collaboration between tabla player Talvin Singh and two of London’s most exciting musicians.
Percussionist, producer and composer Talvin Singh is renowned for creating a bridge between Indian and electronic music, often referred to as Asian underground.
He has taken the tabla to the cutting edge, ultimately helping to demystify Indian classical music, and therefore inspire a new generation of musicians and producers in India and the South Asian diaspora worldwide.
His debut album, OK, achieved huge acclaim and won Singh the Mercury Music Prize in 1999, and he’s gone on to work with artists including Sun Ra, Ustad Sultan Khan, Terry Riley, John Martyn and Yoko Ono.
He was awarded an OBE in 2015 for services to music. Singh continues to perform internationally, write and produce music and to work as a music director for various creative projects
Coby Sey is a south-east London-based songwriter, producer, vocalist and DJ. His compositions offer a shifting, disorienting vision of club music, augmented by live instrumentation in his performances. Following collaborations with Mica Levi, Tirzah, Kwes, Klein and Babyfather, Sey’s debut solo album, Conduit, was released to widespread critical acclaim last year.
Lucinda Chua is a singer, songwriter, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in south London. Primarily using her voice, a cello, and an array of effects units, Chua writes ambient pop songs that are intimate, atmospheric and totally enchanting.
Her 2019 debut EP Antidotes 1, self-released during her time under NTS Radio’s Work In Progress mentorship scheme, flitted between hushed songwriting and expansive textural soundscapes. Chua released her album YIAN in 2023.
