BRUTALISM presents Flora Yin Wong and Abdullah Miniawy at St. Gertrud

  • Celebrating a year of brutalist sound art in St. Gertrud with Flora Yin Wong and Abdullah Miniawy. Over the past year, we have transformed iconic Brutalist buildings into immersive resonance bodies to explore the concept of sound-based BRUTALISM. Join us on October 7th, when we continue to explore creative possibilities that arise when architecture, music, and visual art converge. Flora Yin Wong is an experimental artist and writer from London whose work incorporates field recordings and early instruments such as singing bowls, yangqin and kemence, processed through pedals, Max/MSP, as well as text-based storytelling and abstraction. The Egyptian expressionist, writer, chanter, composer, and actor Abdullah Miniawy presents his new solo work, which he envisions as “an opera for Muslims.” Alexandre Parizet, a student at the Paris Cergy Graduate School of Arts (ENSAPC), is a young French filmmaker whose work focuses on the Basque country, in particular its relationship with storytelling and fishing. Planar is an audiovisual project by Karlsruhe-based artist Nic Eßer. His practice is inspired by the observation of analogue phenomena that lay the foundation for an exploration in digital realms. We are proud to present Dornen and Lomi’s first joint liveset that will feature material from our upcoming BRUTALISM release. Both joined forces and combined parts of their live material from the last year to present a common vision of sound-based brutalism.
