  • We return to the historical Musikbrauerei in Prenzlauer Berg. This building has long served as the spiritual home base of Kiezsalon, and we are glad to return with three Berlin premieres: Japanese art-pop musician Tujiko Noriko, Osaka-based duo KAKUHAN and Rahma Quartet, fronted by Egyptian vocalist Rasha Ragab. Tujiko Noriko is a Paris-based Japanese musician, actor and director. Since the early 2000s, she has released several albums of experimental pop, singing bittersweet melodies in Japanese and English over glitchy, downtempo electronics and electro-acoustic arrangements. Tujiko Noriko’s latest album ‘Crépuscule I & II’ was released on Editions Mego earlier this year. Pitchfork’s review states the ‘new two-part album exchanges her colorful pop patchwork for soft, luminous ambient music of alien beauty and human warmth.’ The word “Kakuhan” in Japanese means “stirring” of various elements, which perfectly describes the experimental duo KAKUHAN‘s alchemic approach to music. Together electronic producer Koshiro Hino and cellist Yuki Nakagawa combine raw digital music and bowed cello in syncopated songs that embark on unexplored territory in electronic music. Their critically acclaimed debut album Metal Zone combines grimy, cybernetic club music with freakish rhythmic interplay and dense sonic textures. Berlin/Munich-based Rahma Quartet is comprised of vocalist Rasha Ragab, Argentinian woodwind player Lucio Capece, sound object artist Christoph Nicolaus (stone harp) and Werner Dafeldecker on double bass. The Quartet will play "Mercy is called down by Mercy to the last" for the first time in Berlin. Playing alongside our live musicians is Hiroshima-born Berlin-based DJ, sound artist, and composer Mieko Suzuki, gracing the Musikbrauerei with her hybrid set. Since 2009, she has been running the multidisciplinary series ‘Kookoo’ at OHM, one of our favorite club nights. The Kiezsalon is a project by Digital in Berlin. Curated by Michael Rosen and funded by Senate Department for Culture. Presented by The Wire and taz, die tageszeitung.
