HABIBI FUNK
Habibi Funk is a Berlin-based record label brought to life by Jannis Stürtz. It pays natural homage to songs that were hits in the Arab music world of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, which are now drawing attention beyond their original sphere.
Habibi Funk boasts a wide selection of records, ranging from the old Algerian coladera to Lebanese Groove, from Egyptian disco to Moroccan funk, with a deep collection focused on the Arab music world. The team, renowned worldwide for artists like Ahmed Malek, Al Masrieen, Fadoul, and Daltan, hailing from the live music scenes of Central Asia and North Africa, has also set an important standard in tracing the musical heritage with their recorded mixes.
NABIHAH IQBAL
She started her music career while working as a human rights lawyer. Under the name Throwing Shade, she gained recognition, hosting a show on NTS Radio and exploring global music. She contributed vocals to Sophie's work, now playing a huge role in Hyperpop.
In 2017, she transitioned to releasing music under her birth name, shifting to guitar-oriented vocal music. Her debut album 'Weighing of the Heart' on Ninja Tune drew inspiration from William Blake and Matthew Arnold.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, her album was stolen, and she ended up in Pakistan with her grandparents. There, she started a web series about local plants and also had a residency at The BBC Asian Network. Lately she returns with ‘DREAMER’, her long-awaited new album out 28th April 2023 on Ninja Tune.
AXEL MOON
Axel Moon spent four years in India collecting folk instruments before becoming half of the Ko Shin Moon. His friend Niko Shin set up a recording studio filled with analog synths and classical instruments, creating a space where music virtuosos could blend psychedelic, disco, and electro baglama and oud sounds. Moon, who recently shared the song "İsyan" recorded with Minyatür 2 and Melike Şahin.
KAAN DÜZARAT
Kaan Düzarat keeps himself busy with numerous musical projects and endeavors, exploring the many sides of his musical personality. Under the name FOC Edits, he has released a series of edits of Turkish Psych and Club classics, consciously weaving a web between influences like Baris Manco and Moodymann. He is also playing electronics and live processing with his Dub and Turkish Psych influenced three piece live electronic band project Falso. His day jobs include an ongoing stint at Istanbul’s unique and acclaimed radio station Dinamo FM, producing and remixing for local artists, sound designing and jingle writing for films at his studio nooniki, and at night you’ll find him running things down with his label Vesvese at several clubs in Istanbul.
