  • Wata Igarashi has long since distinguished himself as one of Japan’s finest techno producers and a standout voice on the international stage. A sound sculptor of the highest order, Igarashi crafts immaculate wormholes and veritable spiritual ascents. Early transmission on Midgar and DJ Nobu’s Bitte records set the tone, and an outstanding run of late 2010’s EPs for The Bunker are essential entries into the modern techno canon. This year, Igarashi finally releases his debut album, and what a ride it is. “Agartha” arrives on the seminal Kompakt label and turns to a more mystical exploration/meditation reminiscent of classic kosmische. No surprise, the album is a beauty. It’s rare that an artist never misses, but Igarashi’s aim is true. Volvox needs no introduction. The NY breakout made her name as an absolute menace in NY. Global recognition was an inevitability, as was an evolution in sound. Volvox’s roots are in acidic, industrial tinged techno, but she’s taken that seed and fostered something totally her own. Volvox mixes destructive, towering techno with the deadly finesse of a trained assassin. Berlin’s Paula Koski dips into a more tunneling, head spinning groove. She pulls from a lineage of tight, high speed groove science. Loopy, spacey, hypnotic and burning with passion - Koski sets it off. Dan Shake touches down for his first time at the club. The UK artist evokes a quintessential lineage of selectors, with rare disco, boogie, house and edits weaving together in an ecstatic refrain. An early endorsement from none other than Moodymann set Shake on his path, and his own productions echo the master’s glorious mix of vinyl-crackle samples and rugged, deceptively tough rhythms. Honey Soundsystem’s Jason Kendig draws from a similar midwest lineage. The Detroit native has put in time as a resident at Smart Bar and his hometown’s infamous club Motor. He takes those deep roots wherever he goes, drawing on the foundations to continuously extend himself as an artist. His tenure in San Francisco helped to redefine the city’s nightlight with HSS’s curation and his own DJing. Now a resident of NY, Kendig brings a delicacy, focus and tender strength to STUDIO. x3butterfly’s on the case. The fast-emerging NY artist is turning heads for their ability to stitch together genres and weave through sets to quick-release highs. It’s a wild ride, but x3butterfly makes it look easy. ■ No photos or videos ■ No phone use on the dancefloor ■ The dance floor is for dancing, not conversation ■ No glowing/flashing clothes or items ■ Respect other people's space, no shuffling ■ Consent is mandatory ■ Zero tolerance for racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism or any form of discrimination ■ Take care of each other, alert our staff if somebody isn't feeling well ■ Violating the house rules will result in removal ■ Ticket purchase does not guarantee entrance
