Asona Records was established in the mid-80s, with little fanfare, in Peckham, South East London. It was a label with a firm mission: Burger Highlife.
Founded by the late Anthony Roberts Frempong in the mid-80s, 30 years later the resurgence of the Ghanaian Hi Life sound has once again swept the nations with many music lovers discovering the Asona Records back-catelogue.
Fittingly, the son of Anthony, London-based underground House DJ, Jerry Frempong, has recently signed a re-issue deal with BBE Music to showcase all of the 11 albums.
Expect to experience a fantastic showcase of some of the best groundbreaking Hi-Life productions inspired by traditional Ghanaian folk, funk, disco and 80s electronica.
(Please arrive early, as the venue is very intimate and space is limited)
