elements welcomes “bass music luminary” DJ Ripley. Rooted in jungle, breakcore, dancehall and dub, Ripley is renowned for weaving together eclectic bass sounds from around the world. Nurtured in Boston’s Toneburst Collective in the 90s, she quickly gained worldwide attention for her fearless innovation on-the-fly in her dj sets and projects which arguably shaped the landscape of bass music. She cofounded Surya Dub (SF) in 2006, joined Dutty Artz (NYC) in 2011, and in 2015 she cofounded the groundbreaking HEAVY series with DJ Anna Morgan. More recently, she cofounded SubVersion (PHL) with Philly-based dj/producers Cristiña and Sideswipe.
A master of genre-smashing heavy sounds with a junglist approach, her sets feature anything from jungle, dancehall, footwork, cumbia, bhangra, azonto, baile funk, UK garage, soca, afrobeats, kuduro, gqom, dembow, and dark bass sounds of breakcore, juke, booty bass, grime, jersey (and other) club musics. You won't know what's coming but you will feel it when it hits!
Among her many accomplishments, she’s also written a book on Jamaican soundsystem culture, copyright law and anticolonial resistance: Rude Citizenship.
