- Griot-Post-Punk-Noise mit verführerischer Trance-Kraft Avalanche Kaito: Der urbane Griot Kaito Wimse aus Burkina Faso trifft auf die Brüsseler Noise-Punk-Musiker Benjamin Chaval (Schlagzeug, Elektronik) und Nico Gitto (Gitarre). Das Trio verschmilzt die mündlichen Traditionen des westafrikanischen Griot mit Klängen aus Post-Punk, Wave, Free Jazz, Progrock und Industrial-Electronica. So entsteht eine geheimnisvolle und aufregende Klangmatrix in der so disparate wie seltsam kompatible Soundscapes widerhallen: Griot-Traditionen, Fugazi, Can, der Zappa der 70er Jahre, Black Midi, die treibende Kraft von Nyege Nyege Tapes… Kaito Winse stammt aus einer Familie von Griot-Musiker*innen, nach Belgien verschlug es ihn auf der „Suche nach Musik, die es noch nicht gibt“, nachdem ihm ein Freund des belgischen Duos Le Jour du Seigneur deren Musik vorgespielt hatte. Über einige Umwege fand sich die heutige Besetzung und begann, eine Klangwelt aus alten Groit-Sprichwörtern zu entwickeln, die sich in ein futuristisches Noise-Chaos stürzt. Das Trio spielt hauptsächlich Kompositionen von Kaito Wimse, der mit einer Stimme spricht, nuschelt und singt, die so kraftvoll und bezaubernd ist, als wäre sie für die Oper gemacht, und der gleichzeitig der Peulflöte und dem traditionellen Mundbogen unfassbar schöne Töne entlockt. Nico Gitto steuert mit seiner Barriron-Gitarre orchestrale, ausgefeilte Klangerlebnisse und einen satten Groove bei, synchron zu Chavals kraftvollem Schlagzeugspiel, das sich mit Kaitos Griot-Energie verbindet. Die Band veröffentlichte ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum im Juni 2022, kurz nach der vielgelobten 4-Song-EP „Dabalomuni“ im Januar desselben Jahres, die von The Wire als „freaked, juddering electronic punk“ beschrieben wurde. Es bleibt die Aufgabe, Worte für eine Musik zu finden, die gerade erst im Entstehen begriffen ist. It’s a completely new alloy and it’s also a huge opportunity to deconstruct knowledge and create a brand new playing field. After a few adventures in the scenes of the European underground, singer / poly instrumentalist Kaito Winse and drummer / pure dataist Benjamin Chaval (Bargou 08, Le jour du seigneur) invite Nico Gitto (Facteur Cheval, Zoft, Why The Eye ?) on guitar. They will develop a crazy universe between experiments without a net and incredible postmodern grooves. This is truly the world as it is: a world of travelers who meet. Like Kaito, they can both claim to be guardians of tradition and curious about all combinations. Others, like Benjamin or Nico, are more the kind of multikulti. They share a desire to reinvent. They are ready to follow the backwater where it will move according to climate changes. It's a world of movement and too bad for those who are afraid. The trio mostly play Kaito's compositions, each making sure to write their part very freely. At the end all compositions are collective. The griot handles proverbs. These are the pillars of wisdom. He can both murmur and harangue, while his intense flute solos come straight from a free jazz he never knew. Nico brings this very rare quality of being both able to ensure the groove of a very uncommon rhythmic baritone guitar and develop sophisticated sound experiences. Benjamin plays his destroy drums with two cut pieces of brush handle. Also he provides an important Pure Data electronic part partially controlled by triggers, a real fourth wheel to the coach.
