- CELEBRATING 11 YEARS OF CHARADES Bringing together two of the country's best! Andy Garvey and DJ Scorpion coming together for the first time in our basement! In April 2023, we were fortunate enough to witness the collaboration of Andy Garvey and DJ Scorpion at Inner Varnika, where they seamlessly tripped out their approach to techno, breaks and electro. The synergy between their talents left such an indelible impression that on that same weekend, we made a pact to reunite for an extended encounter with their captivating sounds. Andy Garvey – Andy Garvey is a do’er. From music producer, to esteemed radio host on both FBi Radio and triple j, label boss of her own imprint Pure Space, co-founder of events and artist agency NECTAR - she’s cemented herself as a growing force in the Australian music landscape. March 2019 saw the release of her debut EP ‘Eternal Recurrence’ on cult techno label Lobster Theremin. Praised by Resident Advisor as ‘a confident blend of techno and electro’, the release forms the base for an exciting new chapter in Andy’s career. A dance music authority at triple j, Andy is the host and programmer of the weekly mix show Mix Up. Her discerning taste and effortless on-air presenting style captivates the country every Saturday night as she sources exclusive mixes from exciting acts from both locally and abroad. Andy continues to host Pure Space every week on beloved community radio station, FBi Radio. With an ear finely tuned to the workings of the diverse local and international dance music community, Andy introduces some of the world’s most interesting electronic music to Sydney airwaves. In April 2019 Pure Space released its debut label offering, a four track various artist 12” release. Off air Andy continues to light the fire under packed club floors around Australia and is fast becoming one of the countries most in demand DJs. Her latest European visit in February 2019 included a show at Concrete in Paris and London’s infamous Corsica Studios as well as radio appearances on both Red Light Radio and Rinse FM. She will return to the UK and Europe for her debut tour later this year. Andy co-founded NECTAR, an events and bookings agency established in 2018 - here she works as a mentor, educator and events curator. DJ Scorpion – DJ Scorpion is the solo project of Amelia Jenner, label boss and radio host of cult Australian electronic label Body Promise and co-founder of the NECTAR agency. As half of Body Promise she spins the hottest bangers and champions local artists; as a co-founder and member of Nectar she throws some of the most considered parties and events Sydney has to offer. Her solo DJ guise is the rarest emergence of them all and one of the most exciting of herforms. Scorp moves at a breakneck pace across genres, leaning towards driving rhythmictracks built for the floor that are both fresh and refined. Taking a darker and more twisted approach, you can expect anything from jungle, DnB, IDM, deep techno, broken beat and bigeuphoric face melters, the likes of which can be seen through her mixes for Bizarro (named oneof Resident Advisor’s mixes of the month),Melbourne Deepcast, Red Light Radio andAnimalia. 2019 saw her undertake her debut Australian tour which included a slot at the nowiconic Freedom Time festival in Perth on New Years Eve.
