Worn Pop 10 Years

  • Worn Pop presents it’s 10 Year Anniversary event, featuring live performances from 3 essential synth artists – Das Ding, Fatamorgana and Charlie. Post-punk act Morwan opens the show, and Serge Jazzmate will keep us moving from doors till late with his special dj-set of avant-garde electronics. Artists: DAS DING is Danny Bosten, who was active in the early eighties releasing his music and the music of friends through his own cassette label called Tear Apart Tapes. While studying graphic design at the art academy, he designed all tape covers himself. Meanwhile, he recorded his own music as Das Ding. Powerful, dark electro, some songs quite addictive and danceable while others are more for home listening pleasure. In 2007, '433rpm', from the extensive music blog 'No Longer Forgotten Music', posted some of his old Das Ding tapes, and Veronica Vasicka, who runs the New York-based 'Minimal Wave' label and specializes in reissues of 1980s synth-wave - contacted Danny to propose the release of a Das Ding album. Old tapes were recovered and Minimal Wave released a remastered version of 'HSTA' and other tracks in 2010. Renewed interest followed the record's release and requests for live shows soon arrived. Twenty years later, and after some deliberation, Das Ding was reincarnated under its old name, but now with a revised line-up and set-up that reflected the inevitable change in technology. Das Ding was suddenly a 'Dutch electro pioneer' and the apparent pinnacle of 'Minimal Wave'. We are now over 17 records and cassettes and more than 100 performances further, and after a successful tour through North, Central and South America sharing the stage with the Jesus and Mary Chain, Boy Harsher, A Split Second, Ms. . Boan, Gris Futuro and others, no end seems to be in sight. FATAMORGANA is a synth-pop duo who specializes in a variant of electronic post-punk that is both dreamy and danceable. Formed in Barcelona in the summer of 2017, the project sprang to life from the hearts and minds of Patrycja Proniewska and Louis Harding. What began as a bedroom project of sorts (monophonic synthesizers, 4-track cassette recordings), Fatamorgana soon blossomed into a functional live unit. Early 2019 saw the release of their debut full-length Terra Alta, an 11 song LP full of sharp, hook-filled numbers, minimal but catchy, cold yet somehow joyous at the same time. Following the album´s release, Fatamorgana spent much of the year presenting their work in both the European and North American continents. Whilst underpinned by uptempo kinetic rhythms, the group's sound has a pensive and mesmeric quality, provided in part by the space found inherently in such a minimal instrumental arrangement, but also by lyrics (mostly in Spanish) concerning themselves with themes such as time travel, the power of imagination and the mysteries of the natural world. Dreamlike synthesizers and echoed voices circle around propulsive rhythms, inviting you to simultaneously contemplate and move your body. Allow yourself to be teleported from the majesty of Nature, to the glow of the discotheque. CHARLIE or Leona Jacewska – DJ, producer and live performer is hailing from the Polish city of Krakow. There she caters to Krakow's visual art scene as the CO-director of the project space "Elementarz dla mieszkańców miast" and throws parties under the name Szum uniting cold mutant electro with sparkling italo disco. Behind the decks she has been smashing dancefloors for years, selecting an eclectic yet always driving mix drawing from the same influences. But as a skilled pianist, she was always drawn to creating her own music as well. She contributed several projects for movies and performances - and over the years fleshed out a killer live show using analog synthesizers and machines, which she presented at such festivals as Unsound, Black! Factory, Up to Date and Kalabalik Pa Tyrolen. You can check her releases on labels such as Ferry Lane Records, Mechatronica, Worn Pop and Dom Trojga. In 2024 her catalogue will be replenished with the upcoming works on Wrong Era and Pinkman. MORWAN is a project run by Alex Ashtaui – a musician and artist born in Kyiv, Ukraine. It is a rhythmic fast-paced punk with elements of folk and ethno music. His tracks combine the rhythmic basis of post-punk with Arabic and Ukrainian motifs. Fast, dark, original and even ritual music. The project was launched in 2019. During its existence, two albums were released, namely: "Ubila Mogila" (2019) and "Zola-Zemlya" (2020). The third album 'Svitaye, Palaye' was intended to be lighter, melancholic and somewhat danceable while maintaining the basic sonic style and aesthetics of the previous releases. However, the Russian invasion to Ukraine slowed down the work and made serious changes to the general idea of the album. Although the main theme of the album is the war, there are no specific stories or descriptions of the events of the war, – it's more of an abstract and emotional thing. First impressions, moods or emotions experienced during certain events. Pain of loss, sadness, fear, hatred, anger, and aggression are all part of 'Svitaye, Palaye'. Morwan has been released on such labels as Detriti Records, Death Shadows Records, Feel it Records, Reclusion Records. SERGE JAZZMATE — co-founder of Kyiv's crew LOW Party, the resident of ∄ (k41) club, and festivals by Closer — he is a rare phenomenon in the Ukrainian electronic scene. A music aficionado to the core of his being, Serge refuses to recognize musical boundaries. Moreover, Serge is a regular artist in Ukraine’s largest festivals - Strichka and Brave! Factory and Rythm Buro Natura. Last year he played his first but not the last set at Panorama Bar. Today Serge is enriched with the charisma of a cult leader, finding a universal balance between rare tunes from the past and cream-of-the-crop contemporaries. Poster by Sasha Sinica See Ya X
