There are DJs who can extend a single vibe over the course of a night – and then there’s “another way of doing things”, hints Solid Blake. You can guess which camp the Glasgow-born DJ falls in. Bringing the frozen pulse of electro together with dissident techno and bass from all eras, Emma Blake’s side-winding DJ sets and slick productions have made her a fixture of the European underground over the last half-decade, but after years away from home – first in her beloved Copenhagen and now in the techno bustle of Berlin – she’s emerging from her lockdown cocoon with a recalibrated approach. Pushing robotic body music to its kinetic and cathartic limits as both DJ and producer, Solid Blake's precision is remarkable. With productions described by Mixmag as "percussion palpitating below wild synth bursts," this is an artist rightfully earning her praises developing a reputation for impacting crowds with her gritty cross-pollinated strains of electronic club music.
The most personal is often the most universal. This probably explains why Marie Davidson’s work resonates with so many. Born in Montreal, Canada, Marie is an electronic music performer, DJ, singer and songwriter. Active for more than a decade, Davidson’s work is characterized by her idiosyncratic vocal delivery, and an ever expansive palette of sound. Renowned for her generous performances mixing hard-hitting percussions, haunting synth melodies and catchy punchlines. She has also been acclaimed for her broad catalog of recorded music, under her own name and as Essaie pas on labels such as Ninja Tune, Cititrax (Minimal Wave), DFA Records & more.
Based in Zurich, Jenny Cara first touched base with electronic music early on when she launched out into the club scene of Lucerne, where her musical education began. Even though her grades in school suffered, her endeavors brought her to become a booker and later manager of Zurich’s Club Zukunft.
Jenny Cara’s energetic spirit taps into all different fields of her work, leading her to co-found the project eXchange, which revolves around creating access for BIPoC FLINTAs into the realms of DJing and music production and reducing discriminatory structures.
Her selection oscillates between blithe and cheerful sounds, driven by the dynamic influences of UK soundculture. Still the human dynamo doesn’t let herself be put into a box. Her intersectional approach centers community, history, joy and accessibility, all the while not forgetting the importance of a good House banger.
Host of the night is Levente, bringing the third edition of CRY AT to Sameheads. Levente, the multifaceted artist, DJ, producer, and promoter, is making waves across the global music scene, leaving an indelible mark on international club scene from Hamburg to Tbilisi. As the resident DJ at the iconic Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg and co-host of the acclaimed ACID TEARS night alongside BOBBIE* and part of the queer collective OGAY, Levente is a driving force in shaping the sonic landscape of these vibrant cities. His influence is also felt in Tbilisi's dynamic club scene, with regular appearances at renowned venues such as Left Bank and TES. Known for his genre-defying approach, Levente seamlessly navigates a musical spectrum that spans bass, IDM, post-dubstep, acid, wave, electro, punk and body music. This versatility has earned him a reputation as a tastemaker, bridging gaps between seemingly disparate genres and creating a unique sonic experience.
