loki live, a weekly series of live events situated in Brixton's loki kicks off in January with Leif, Elsa Hewitt, Ola Szmidt & Jonathan L Allen.
UK-based artist Leif has spent the past decade exploring electronic music as a vehicle for meditation and reflection. His sound has evolved over 20 EPs and three acclaimed albums, most recently appearing on labels such as AD93, Livity Sound and Idle Hands as well as co-running UntilMyHeartStops with fellow Freerotation resident Joe Ellis. Over time, his subtle approach has shifted further away from the forthright propulsion of house and techno towards the more abstract - drawing on myriad elements from the rhythmic flair of broken beat to spacious ambient atmospherics, acoustic instrumentation and polyrhythmic melodic patterns.
Elsa Hewitt makes mesmerising and deceptively experimental music, merging currents of lo-fi house, future garage, dub-techno, experimental-techno and hip-hop, with hazy textural ambience, well honed songwriting and spoken word.
Ola Szmidt is an artist and sound therapist who, over the last 10 years, has developed a unique minimal compositional practice with looping devices. She is releasing her next EP on Matthew Herbert's Accidental Records.
