Dis0rientalizing is a creative and healing space centering SWANASA and AAPI DJs and producers in Lenapehoking, founded by and for SWANASA and AAPI diaspora communities and liberationist allies. The party’s name is coined to sarcastically and humorously describe the sentiment toward ongoing xenophobia, white supremacy, antisemitism, and western imperialism.
As SWANASA and AAPI creatives, we also aim to use this space to not only create and heal but to also find more community members to mobilize. Our joy, our collective grief, cultural diversity, and solidarity make up the true foundation of our resistance against western imperialism.
As historically demonstrated by indigenous and civil rights leaders, we believe that creativity is one of the most pragmatic tools to avoid burnout in the grand scheme of activism during times of grief while living in a white colonial state, thereby stressing the importance of art as a political form of expression and resistance.
The organizers do not profit from this event and pay the artists out-of-pocket, and the event is completely free to attendees. We encourage club-goers and ravers from our communities to join forces and collaborate with us in pursuit of democratizing and decentralizing this effort so it's not only run by two Levantine Arabs.
