Entropy 熵 invites Soft Crash (Pablo Bozzi & Phase Fatale) & Nanogram (Entropy 熵, Hong Kong)

  • Soft Crash Epitomised by steely electronics within their heady-come-meloncholic sonic dreamscape, Soft Crash is the collaborative project of Infravsion’s Pablo Bozzi as well as Berghain resident and BITE Label architect Hayden Payne (aka Phase Fatale). The Berlin-based pair’s generative synthesis colliding their individually reputable production styles whilst incorporating vast references from Post-Punk, Italo-Disco to Electro has spear-headed them as pioneers of the Italo Body Music genre. A sweet spot where dystopia and utopia converge, Soft Crash’s distinct sound palette functions to explore technology and the artificial within the terrain of our most intimate human experiences, engineered by laminations of Synthwave, Acid House and incorporating a groovier, contemporary Techno sound. Reimagining floor fillers from a unique, emotional perspective, the pairs futurist manifesto of surrealist visuals and technologically-made music pulls on their mutual affinity for the literary worlds of J.G Ballard and William S.Burroughs as well as the heartbeat of the dancefloors they foster worldwide. With engines revved after releasing their debut LP ‘Your last Everything’ on BITE in 2022, the Italo body music trailblazers looked to further expand the cyber multiverse forged from their 2020 EP ‘Spritzkrieg’ - this time calling upon Canadian electronic musician and producer Marie Davidson to lend vocals to the remix of the albums namesake track. From playing clubs and festivals globally to the illustrious Panorama Bar, Soft Crash are firmly establishing themselves as mainstays of electronic music’s most esteemed institutions as well as pushing limitations with their innovative approach to their sound production and their electrifyingly evocative DJ sets. Pablo Bozzi Over the past couple years, it seems everyone has turned their gaze towards Pablo Bozzi. The Berlin-by-way-of-Toulouse producer and DJ has taken the club scene by storm with releases he’s coined Italo Body Music. The particular concoction of Italo Disco melodies overtop the brutality of an EBM beat—often a funky groove but with an edge—boast the precision of Bozzi’s productions that derive from his classical music background. If anything, Bozzi is prolific in his mastery of hybrid dance genres, most recently with the EPs Ghost of Chance (Dischi Autunno) and Magnetisma (Bite Records), along with his first full-length album, Street Reign on Pinkman—each released in 2022. Additionally, his amped-up edits of new and old classics such as the Italo staple, “Feel the Drive,” by Doctor’s Cat and Boy Harsher’s most recent banger (soft crash edit), “Machina,” ignite dance floors all over the world. Bozzi’s collaborations with other producers keep in the Italo Body Music spirit without veering off course. The project Soft Crash with Phase Fatale, presents a dark layer of moodiness with epic melodies that course through unforgiving strains of EBM basslines. INFRAVISION, Bozzi’s moniker alongside fellow Toulousian, Kendal, presents pop elements of 90s early trance into the fold, as demonstrated via their raucous Boiler Room Gdansk back-to-back DJ appearance. But it is not only Bozzi’s productions that steal the show: his DJ sets are an exciting whirlwind of genres. The ebb and flow of his DJ performances race through a journey curated for dancers who want emotion in their club experience—built to cater to those who appreciate the twists and turns of elaborate musical storylines. From appearances at the renowned Panorama Bar / Laboratory , to his residencies at Tbilisi's Khidi Club (plus a Khidi Boiler Room) and Berlin’s streaming radio residency, HÖR, there’s no stopping his insatiable, high energy spectaculars. Pablo will launch his own imprint, Second Sight focused on showcasing new talents and friends. Phase Fatale Emerging as Phase Fatale in 2014, Berlin-based DJ, producer and label owner, Hayden Payne is rewriting the discourse of Techno with his cross-pollination of gnarly basslines, sensual narratives and mind-control mechanics. Demonstrating his vision through an authentic, highly curated sonic-lens of techno, Payne’s rhythmic excursions draw on both his roots in the New York and Berlin underground as well as his reputable experience performing to dancefloors globally. Exemplified by long-standing tenures as a resident for esteemed institutions such as Berlin’s Berghain as well as KHIDI in Georgia's capital Tbilisi, Payne demonstrates a resolute understanding of harnessing club synergy across his productions and DJ sets. With three full length albums under his belt, including the 2020 sophomore release ‘Scanning Backwards’ on Berghain’s Ostgut Ton, Payne’s sonic signature pushes the boundaries of techno sensibilities and reflects the zeitgeist whilst staying true to his own vision. Wasting no time since his solo project’s inception to showcase his expert sonic ability, Payne has toured throughout Europe performing at renowned clubs and festivals worldwide, releasing numerous records on labels including Jealous God, Ostgut Ton, and his own label BITE. Payne launched the BITE imprint in 2018 as a means to platform cutting-edge sound production across a diverse roster of international artists. Along with fellow Soft Crash protagonist Pablo Bozzi pioneering ‘Italo Body Music’, BITE’s seminal synthesis of curated techno solidifies the label as a tour de force taste-maker within electronic music with showcases worldwide including Berghain and their 5 year anniversary compilation ‘Shedding Skin’ in 2023. Hailing from post-punk roots, Payne draws on his depth of musical knowledge and multitude of influences. His merging of nuanced references and high concept narratives remain geared towards the dancefloor at its core, subtleties of his multifarious sonic palette act as the foundations for his layered wall of sound.
