CTM 2024 Berghain Night 4

  • On the main floor, beatmaker 40 Hurtz is joined by the full-throated holler of wordsmith Hazey Haze, painting pictures of the peaks and troughs of Irish life by a distinct and proud Limerick accent. Armed with self-built controllers as they dive into and disrupt the crowd, the high-intensity live duo FITNESSS feat LUNG combine into a suspenseful sonic assault of high-precision sound design and raw intense vocals, coursing with the distilled rage and sorrow of a decimated Los Angeles. Barcelona duo Dame Area grind elements of minimal electronics, visceral EBM, Gristleized textures, and tribal percussion into a raw industrial stew that defies easy categorization. Appearing with a live AV show crafted from his latest album Syntheism, experimental bass producer EPROM dives deep into the absolute chaos of chirurgic sound design and showers of breakbeats, paying homage to acid, dubstep, drum'n'bass, breakcore, and many other genres. Syntheism is the elevation or deification of that which we as humans create, and this project is an attempt to fuse all of the producer's interests in art: musical, visual and written. Prague based electronic and acoustic composer, producer, audiovisual artist and XYZ label head Oliver Torr skillfully melds diverse dance music from around the globe with avant-garde sounds, using a variety of tape machines, field recorders, and synthesizers. As one-third of the Local Juice Soundsystem collective, Hanaby’s unique and uplifting sets effortlessly blend gqom, dancehall, kuduro, jersey club along with tracks that skirt genre entirely. A prominent figure in the Berlin music scene, Meg10’s sets brim with bass music, femme energy, and XXXplicit lyrics. They’ll be going b2b in a fiery set sure to electrify. SLIC Unit stars Nissa and SENU meld their magnetizing fusion in a b2b set transcending soul, funk, and global bass grooves. Joining the night will be Detroit ghettotech torchbearers HiTech, and Berlin’s favourite rainbow bass proponent Sarah Farina, who seamlessly blends bass-heavy frequencies and futuristic beats with fearless forays through the hardcore continuum and beyond. Malengo's DJ sets echo with the sonic flavours of his Congolese roots, skillfully blended with r&b and the sweetest 90s/2000s hip hop grooves. Weaving together left-field electronics, hard dance, techno, and myriad underground sounds with a bold yet graceful flair, Nyege Nyege star Turkana’s sets are as energizing as they are surprising. GASH Collective is a source of innovation on the more uncompromising strands of Irish underground music while focusing on supporting female, trans, queer, non-binary, and other underrepresented people in music production through parties, workshops and other collaborations. This CTM x transmediale club night at Berghain Säule shines light on some of the initiative’s key figures, opening with Baptist Goth, who appears live as a fusion of an emo trap idol and a Catholic saint. ALYXIS deepens the groove with a dark and bassy live AV set that might include interjections from a reassuring chatbot voice and housey pop edits. DJ sets from the collective’s co-founders ELLLL and Lolz span abstract experimentalism, fragmented rhythms, and bass-heavy club bangers, while GASH collective regulars and avid record collectors Eliza and Maeve O’Neill will close with a wide-ranging set drawing on electro, ebm, techno, and acid. Note: The previously listed artist ojoo will perform now at the club night at RSO.Berlin on 3 February. The previously listed artists Americhord, DJ Fuckoff, Sarj, Jana, Backxwash and Nikki Nair have withdrawn from the festival.
