  • For the upcoming Bells Echo iiinteriiim, we proudly present the only concert by WILLIAM BASINSKI in Germany together with Swansea Concerts. After almost 9 years, we are returning to the starting point of Bells Echo, to the lavishly renovated Philippuskirche. Trained in classical music, William Basinski wrote a piece of music history with his work disintegration loops (2001-2003), in which he stylized the discovery of the transience of the cassette and the gaps created by aging into a main theme. Since then, he has enjoyed a high reputation among lovers of experimental ambient music. Basinski will therefore present an unforgettable sound in a familiar surrounding, the church space. As a further development of his discovery with disintegration loops, he will play a mixture of analog tapes and their manipulation with Ableton Live in the Philippuskirche. With set pieces of classical music, opera and field recordings recorded in abandoned factory halls, the result is a dense, finely curated assemblage in a dystopian-melancholic manner. Stockholm-based artist MARIA W HORN kicks off the evening with a time-space continuum breaking set. As a composer, she uses a variety of musical sources, those of the location as well as elements of classical instruments and choirs. The technique of spectral music serves her from a delicate starting point to a highly concentrated build-up. What is Bells Echo? In addition to concerts by invited artists (N, Warm Graves. Waelder etc.), Bells Echo focuses on a musical performance led by the two initiators Stefkovic van Interesse and Alex Röser. Using dystopian fantasies, dealing with the future of human civilization and consequently address critical questions to the people of the present. In its function as a meeting place, the venue becomes a place of spiritual contemplation on a musical-visual meta-level. Bells Echo attempts to use artistic works to create interfaces between lessons of the past, conflicts of the present and fears of the future. In November 2022, a side series called Bells Echo Interim was created. This took place at UT Connewitz with guest appearances by Ben Frost; Moritz Fasbender and Corecass. This time, the collective's focus was on the realization, curation and visual design with the help of Nuremberg artist Hannah Grünwald. For the second edition of this new series, Stefkovic van Interesse has once again built on the first editions of the event series with his own composition. The invited artists FUJI|||||||||||TA and Maya Shenfeld fitted into the basic tenor of the soundscape and were accompanied by the visual concept of the Leipzig artists Johanna Frederike Koenitz and GenPi.
