Into the Open - Music Festival offers a new perspective on classical music through an interdisciplinary journey between sound, visual and video art, dance, performance, acting, live concerts and electronic music.
On the night of Saturday 27 January, very different artists will take turns on stage: it will be the time of the Barenboim-Said-Akademie Ensemble, producer and DJ Ion Ludwig and Stegreif - The Improvising Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2016, the state-recognised Barenboim-Said Academy has been teaching talented young musicians, primarily from the Middle East and North Africa, in the pedagogical spirit of Edward Said and Daniel Barenboim. In addition to musical theory and practice, the intensive study program places a second emphasis on humanities topics. Its ensemble is composed of violin, viola, cello, clarinet and piano.
Dutch producer and DJ Ion Ludwig, in point of fact studied classic and electronic guitar at the age of 10 and followed multiple African percussion courses, then getting introduced to Techno and House music around 2000, he start production later in 2003. He's often described by those who have had the chance to witness his live performances as a wizard, a magician or maestro.
Without scores - without a conductor - without chairs: Stegreif – The Improvising Symphony Orchestra is a collective of 30 international, cross-genre musicians that blends the legacy of classical compositions with improvisation, reimagining the classical symphony as a starting point for a new concert experience. The memorized performance of these recompositions allows freedom for movement, interaction, and immersive spatial concepts.
