STRANJAH, a notable figure in the Drum and Bass music scene, has been deeply immersed in music since 1997. His early musical explorations included genres like Hip Hop, House, and Techno, before he was captivated by the sounds of early Reinforced and Metalheadz, leading him to Drum and Bass. His journey in this genre began with his first release, "Freezing Point" and "Trouble Maka," on Flex Records in 1999, which marked his entry into the world of Drum and Bass.
Throughout his career, STRANJAH has worked with some of the most prestigious labels in the Drum and Bass world, including Renegade Hardware, Architecture, and Metalheadz. His dedication to the craft of music production is evident in his evolution from using rudimentary tracker software to embracing modern software like Ableton. This journey through different production technologies has given him a deep appreciation for sound creation, highlighting the contrast between the manual, raw process of the past and the automated, accessible methods available today.
STRANJAH's influence extends beyond music production to education and mentorship. He has been teaching music production in Toronto for nearly a decade and has extended his teaching online, notably through his YouTube channel. His goal is to democratize music production knowledge, making it accessible to all aspiring musicians. This mission stems from his own experience of learning and evolving in an era when such knowledge was not as readily available.
In addition to his educational endeavors, STRANJAH continues to innovate in the studio. He has collaborated with various artists, including vocalists like Fox and TT The Artist, showcasing his versatility and ability to adapt his production style to complement different vocals. His recent work includes the ‘Monk Fruit EP’ featuring a mix of Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass, and other styles, demonstrating his eclectic approach to music production.
STRANJAH is also the founder of the Toronto-based label Deviant Audio, which has released exciting projects, including a full-length album by Tyr Kohout and a vocal project with popular Drum & Bass vocalist flowanastasia as well as a pivot towards sample and preset packs. These projects hint at the diversity and quality that STRANJAH and his label bring to the music scene.
As a pivotal figure in the North American Drum and Bass scene, STRANJAH's impact is multifaceted. From his early releases in the late 1990s to his current educational and production endeavors, he continues to shape and influence the Drum and Bass genre, both in Canada and internationally.
