For our first Event of 2024, Woodbridge Festival is delighted to host Richard Norris' book launch tour at 1975.
The night will include a Q&A between Richard and Festival founder Ben Osborne, followed by DJ/ VJ sets.
Richard's autobiography, Strange Things Are Happening, documents his pioneering life in music, whether releasing the UK's first acid house LP with Throbbing Gristle's Genesis P Orridge, topping the charts as The Grid with Soft Cell's Dave Ball, leading theAmbient new wave with Music For Healing or ploughing psych electro with Erol Alkan as Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve. The book features his exploits with seminal cultural figures such as Sun Ra, Timothy Leary, Shaun Ryder, Joe Strummer, Tracey Thorn, Brian Eno, The Chemical Brothers and more... and attendees can purchase signed copies on the first day of his national tour and a week ahead of publication day,
The night is part of Woodbridge Festival's Spring Festival of Colours: Projections for Peace, which takes place on the weekend of 16-17 March; featuring a night of music and projections at 1975, Gobbit's Place, on Saturday, and music and light art at the Tide Mill and Whisstock’s Place on Sunday.
Drawing inspiration from the Holi Festival, a traditional Hindu event celebrating the victory of love over evil, Sunday's event also falls on St Patrick’s night.
With details still being announced, there will be music, artwork, live projections and Choose Love, a new community art and music project. The event will feature participatory art events and workshops at the Tide Mill and other places around town.
The March date at 1975 also launches as series of monthly audio-visual events in Gobbit’s Place, with the further dates announced for 20 April and 24 May. These regular Festival social gatherings will feature music and cross platform arts and will welcome the wider festival family between calendar events.
Further festival offshoots include events with the Tea Hut on River Wall, collaborating with Suffolk Windrush on events in June, Un:Wined, a regular DJ/ VJ event at Saltpeter Taberna, Felixstowe starting on Saturday 2 March, and White Trash, a post punk disco in Farringdon, London, and Out To Lunch at The King's Head, Market Hill, Woodbridge.
