  • Elli Acula lands at BASEMENT for the first time. The SPANDAU20 artist has been on a tear for the last decade, with a coursing, ‘90’s-inflected brand of techno that compromises nothing. Alongside her label bosses and sometimes-collaborators FJAAK, Acula draws on aspects of gonzo acid and stabby rave, finessing them into a knotty technoid hybrid that can fill up an entire warehouse while still sounding up-close-and-personal. Go off. Volvox is a name synonymous with NY techno. One of the city’s premier organizers, a standout artist and true star in the booth, Volvox’s ascent to global success was an inevitability from day one. Her deadly mixing skills and charismatic presence elevate the genre, taking dancers on a no-holds-barred journey. Emergent talent Mos has only been on the scene for a handful of years but is already showing a well-developed voice and a focused vision. Across solo sets and frequent collaborations with Annie Lew, Mos dials in a tempestuous sound that would fit as well on the festival stage as it would in a small, dark club. Kevin Aviance continues to make an impact at STUDIO. The ‘90s NY club kid icon was an unmissable presence in the city’s heyday and a core member of the House of Aviance, but that’s hardly the end of his story. Tracks like “Cunty” and “Rhythm Is My Bitch” were instant classics that helped set Beyoncé on the creative path to Renaissance, on which Aviance has a production credit. Still, Aviance’s works stand all on their own. “On my command relinquish control / Give me your body, surrender your soul” they declaim in the opening bars of “Rhythm,” painting a tableau of kink, ecstasy and awe. “Submission is strongly suggested / As thе drum consumes your soul / The pounding sounds of percussion is all that you'll know.” Let’s hope so. Mutualism joins up with SPRKLBB for a b2b. The two party instigators are a fearsome and fearless duo, each push house-y bombcast and slinky, groovy rarities to the max. Fatherhood, the duo of Michael Magnan and Physical Therapy, is another b2b with notably infused chemistry. Their syrupy approach to groove bridges a syrupy afters energy with peak time highs and dark corridor asides. ■ No photos or videos ■ No phone use on the dancefloor ■ The dance floor is for dancing, not conversation ■ No glowing/flashing clothes or items ■ Respect other people's space, no shuffling ■ Consent is mandatory ■ Zero tolerance for racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism or any form of discrimination ■ Take care of each other, alert our staff if somebody isn't feeling well ■ Violating the house rules will result in removal ■ Ticket purchase does not guarantee entrance
