Psychic Liberation (PL) is a label founded in 2013 that originally ran with Miguel Alvariño under the title Primitive Languages as a cassette and record store project in New York City. Since 2019, Nick Klein has been running it solo out of the EU under the title Psychic Liberation. On March 30th Russell Haswell, URIN and The Wider Gap will perform at the monthly concert series of the same name in the Roter Salon – curated by Hugo Esquinca and Nick Klein.
Russell Haswell is an artist, record producer, free improvisor, computer musician, noise aficionado and curator based in Glasgow. He graduated from Coventry School of Art in 1991 and has since performed in over thirty countries around the world, presenting extensively in venues and festivals including the Prix Ars Electronica, the Serpentine Pavilion, the Barbican, the V-A-C Foundation in Russia, MOFO Tasmania, the Office for Contemporary Art in Norway, ICC and CCA in Japan. While having recorded over twenty albums, Haswell is perhaps best known for his creation of highly innovative, often improvised large-scale sound works, regularly playing with the immersive experience of surround sound. As a curator, he has delivered projects for MoMA PS1, All Tomorrow’s Parties, Aldeburgh Music and Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary.
URIN are a Berlin-based raw punk/D-beat/hardcore band with noise influences, whose band members from Poland, Sweden and the USA came together in 2018 through various current and past projects. URIN is radical, noisy and resistant. And the band also impresses live with its sheer endless energy that tries to push the boundaries of hardcore.
The Wider Gap is Hugo Esquinca and Nick Klein. Hugo Esquinca (Mexico City, 1990) produces actions and conditions utilizing audio electronics at excessive levels of amplification. Nick Klein (Lake Worth, 1987) is an artist working in sound and art and sometimes (begrudgingly) sound art with a lean towards the social potential in those modalities as they interact. Klein has recorded a large amount of music for tape, CD, digital file, and vinyl editions for music labels around the world, as well as running his own amorphous label project PL.
