118: Vladimir Ivkovic, Omid Geadizadeh and Neonlichter

  • Standard Time welcomes the debut of Vladimir Ivkovic, Omid Geadizadeh and Neonlichter! Vladimir Ivkovic is a DJ. He’s more than that of course, but as his essence, Ivkovic is someone with a particularly unique talent for selecting records and weaving them into a larger – and often unusually compelling – narrative. Ivkovic found his musical and spiritual home at Salon des Amateurs, an unassuming spot in Düsseldorf that’s gradually proven to be wildly influential, giving rise in recent years to otherworldly talents like Lena Willikens, Tolouse Low Trax, Jan Schulte and many others, including Ivkovic himself. With its small size, Salon des Amateurs provided something of an open platform, a place where true music lovers could experience DJs exploring sounds and genres that strayed far from traditional electronic dance music tropes. That same adventurous spirit has found its way into Ivkovic’s curation of Offen Music, a label he launched in 2015. In recent years, that temperament has increasingly found devoted followers all around the globe. Simply put, Ivkovic has become a staple of the European club circuit; despite his many years in the humble confines of Salon des Amateurs, he’s proven to be just as comfortable at celebrated nightspots worldwide. Omid Geadizadeh is one of the co-heads of Irish record label Wah Wah Wino. The collective came out swinging in 2017 with their debut double LP compilation “Absolutely Wino”, which peaked ears and put the label on the map. With 11 records under their belt; It’s hard to pin down the labels sound: dubby, psychedelic, experimental, motorik, boogie woogie, non-music, house? There’s a certain trance-inducing quality to it all, like the kind of trance you fall into after getting blasted with your closest friends in a small smoked-out room all night, losing sense of the time. Neonlichter is a DJ, sound artist, and radio host based in Montréal, whose knack for finding contrasts and polymorphic textures across genres has garnered acclaim and scorn in equal measure, most memorably deemed “complete dystopian garbage”. Possibly the only DJ as of press time to have played Malian griot recordings on the main stage of Elsewhere. This versatility has led them to play alongside established and cult artists including Paquita Gordon, David August, Gigi Masin, Scott Zacharias, Mike Servito, and Jessy Lanza. They host the radio show (on N10.AS), podcast, and occasional club night Days Of Steam when time and money allows. Join us early for a truly incredible night of music! 8pm doors with Neonlichter & Omid Geadizadeh kicking things off and setting the tone for the evening.
