/// About the artists:
• Ãssia Ghendir
Ãssia Ghendir is a musician, performance artist and somatic practitioner with a research-driven practice, exploring the parallel and dialogue between geological movements of the earth and somatic movements of the body. Rooted in ancient vocalisations and rite of passage practices, ãssia’s vocal work is a precise attunement through pre-verbal incantations that tells of numinous landscapes, human emotions and its malleability.
• Kaneng Lolang is of Bantu and Balkan origins, and orbits a multitude of sonic contexts as improviser, songwriter and producer. A few of her favourite things are: poetic dissonance, anti-capitalist kinship, and the decay of human supremacy.
• Riar Rizaldi is an artist and filmmaker interested in worldviews and the complexity of belief systems, with particular focus on his home of Indonesia. Using speculative science-fiction, he examines the consequences of advanced technology and modern science on the social, political, and cultural life of human and nonhuman in Southeast Asia, especially in the Indonesian archipelago. Riar explores these issues through the notion of worldbuilding, colliding fiction and observation, and experimenting with audiovisual language and form.
• April Lin 林森 is an interdisciplinary artist and independent curator investigating image-making and world-building as sites for the construction, sustenance, and dissemination of co-existent yet conflicting truths.
Interweaving strands of auto-biography, documentary, queer ecology, and new media, April Lin 林森’s works are topped off with an inevitable garnish consisting of the other matters dialoguing with their brain and heart during the making process of each piece. Uniting their genre-fluid body of work is a commitment to centring oppressed knowledges, building an ethics of collaboration around reciprocal care, and exploring the linkages between history, memory, and interpersonal and structural trauma.
• dove/Chris Kirubi is a poet-artist based in London. Their debut collecting WILDPLASSEN is forthcoming in October this year with the87press. In 2018 they slipped a zine titled Those Institutions Should Belong to Us inside Rehana Zaman’s Tongues published by PSS.
• mellowdramatics plays genre-less, club focused and playful sets, pulling from divergent references that encapsulate the spectrum of what feels like home to them.
As a founding member of Black Obsidian Sound System (B.O.S.S) & crew member of Tanum Sound System, mellowdramatics’ practice as a DJ & operator pushes to resist co-option through attempts at rebuilding, redistributing and sustaining space for those disenfranchised & marginalised, both within London and further afield.
