Spring is, at last, starting to appear through the cracks of winter in full force - life blossoming in spite of itself, and the colour finally returning to Berlin. To guide us into the new season, Berlin collective Realismo Magico have prepared an evening of sonic rituals for rebirth, tilling fertile psychedelic ground for sonic flora & fauna to flourish and summoning alternative universes into being from the speaker stacks. Expect everything from extra-sensual drag collaborations to the usual array of otherworldly selections from crew and guests.
Special guest sets for this edition come from The Burrell Connection and Princess Papaya. As likely to grace dancefloors at Manchester’s Warehouse Project as underground forest raves, Refuge Radio resident The Burrell Connection explores house and techno’s nebulous outer reaches, slinking from heady downtempo excursions to hyperkinetic breaks and frazzled 808s without ever taking you out of the trance. A true selectors selector, and a set that will for sure take you to some unexpected places. Opening ceremonies come from Guatemala-born producer and DJ Princess Papaya, with her hyper-juicy “electropical” sounds, all intense colors and dazzling light beaming from the decks as she scans through everything from Cumbia, Coconut funk and Calypso in a set of proper heaters ripe ‘n’ ready for the season.
Not to be outdone, the Realismo Residents round-out the line-up with their own extra-special performances planned. Alongside her own set of celestial dancefloor magic, Turkish selector Rayne (Cashmere Radio) teams up again with Kekik for a special drag collaboration. Last time around their set saw a cupid-esque Kekik blessing the crowd with roses soundtracked by sensual, twisting electronics. This time? Who knows - you’ll have to come down and experience it for yourself. Nelson of the East injects some proper punk spirit into the dancefloor, shifting from cosmic dub to smoked-out jazz to outernational dance excursions to…well, whatever the fuck he feels like, all mixed with the alchemical magic of a true master on the decks. Another one you really just have to see to believe.
Time to break out those summer clothes at long last, because Realimso Magico are without a doubt going to make you sweat.
