Balance returns to BASEMENT with an absolutely scorching lineup. Lindsey Herbert makes her debut at the venue. Coming from the American southwest, Herbert harnesses a spacious, barreling sound that evokes the epochal, desolate landscapes of her native Arizona. Her mixes feel like a high speed ride through the desert just as the sun dips over the horizon, with lightning illuminating dark clouds overhead. Releases on Truncate, Noise Manifesto and many more are a testament to her masterfully attuned chops and honed vision. Noncompliant is back. The paragon of midwestern true-school techno delivers a masterclass every damn time. She’s a force of nature, a ride-or-die DJ and one of the most thrilling artists to have devoted themselves to the dark art. Noncompliant keeps the renegade energy of the underground alive, her sets offering no respite for the half hearted. Get in and hold on tight; when Noncompliant hits the gas, there’s no turning back. Justin Cudore completes the lineup. The Bunker artist has his roots in jacking, even confrontational house, but he’s as fluent in spacious, looping techno and classic strains. He’ll set the tone in style.
Ukraine’s Etapp Kyle makes his debut at STUDIO with a special house set following a series of standout sets in BASEMENT. Although techno is his bread and butter, Kyle’s approach to the genre is unbounded by orthodoxy. His releases for Ostgut Ton, Klockworks and others draw on IDM and glitching, crackling sound art, draping eerie digital textures of thick slabs of rhythm. A set at STUDIO will allow him a little extra wiggle room, drawing on undertones in his catalog that may typically go unnoticed. The Carry Nation continues their incredible run in the room. Has anyone else made it their own quite like they have? The duo of Nita Aviance and Will Automagic has always been a force, but in recent years, they’ve become a pillar of the community and living proof that artists can get better with age. Why burn out when you can shine bright? Cosmo completes the bill with a healthy dose of Soul. She’s a real one, playing with a graceful intuitiveness and a knack for finding those sweet spots.
