- Our Label Night format dives deep into the sounds and artists that make our favorite labels what they are. This edition focuses on Animalia, the label run by Kia, a staple of the scene in Melbourne now based in Berlin. The label started after an interaction at De School, as described in Kia’s “Breaking Through” RA article: the club’s booker asked about unreleased tracks from [Australian producers] Ménage and then suggested that the 23-year-old Kia should start a label. Since then, Animalia’s label, podcasts, and events have played a key role in a pocket of the scene redefining a “deep techno” sound that sometimes takes itself too seriously. Animalia (and its sub-label Cirrus) feel just as likely to release a fun, proggy anthem as a deep, atmospheric techno track. Kia will play alongside Moopie, a beloved name across Australia, Asia, and Europe, and local favorite DJ Temporary, one of the minds behind Groovy Groovy who played a standout set in the Grove at last year’s Sustain-Release. /// Online purchases are limited to four tickets maximum per person.
