  • Friday 10 May, 2024 Nu-Position x UKAI Projects x Best In Town present: SoundBath.002 22.00 – 04.00h at The Bridge 379 Adelaide St. West Toronto, ON E-Saggila (DJ) + eejungmi (Live & DJ) + Garden of Magic (Live) + Ben McCarthy (Live) + Kaspr b2b Cassraa (DJ) – SoundBath.002 operates in celebration of leftfield bliss, restorative gesture, community, and experimentation as well as in response to a lack of space for the development of leftfield music in Toronto and beyond. – For our second instalment we are excited to welcome the best of the best that Toronto has to offer. UKAI Projects will be wrapping their Factitious residency with showcase of 9 works prior to the performances in the space. Details TBA. After that at 22:00 we will turn the Bridge over to the musicians and performers to take us on a dub experimental journey with the heavy hitting sound system made by our friends at Best In Town! With work spanning many styles/genres/dimensions as well as an equally deep catalog of music, quality is a common thread! E-Saggila: From her base in Toronto, E-Saggila covertly binds industrial music's harshest pole of rhythmic intensity with club-wise shock tactics to create a dark and emotive soundtrack to snap us out of our digital daze. Locked into the idea that music's most extreme and abstract forms have everything to do with the development of dance music culture, E-Saggila carries the DIY ethos that underpins it all right into techno's contemporary core. Part destruction, part reconstruction, it's a sense that's increasingly swarming techno's mainline. A keen feel for elegiac ambient compositions glues much of her work together, and it offers much needed respite from the intensity that's otherwise closely stacked up. The eloquent and melancholic moments typically descend into grim cul-de-sacs, only to corner us there with strong doses of gabber's brutal horsepower. Often topping the low end with a frenzy of breakbeat workouts, E-Saggila is lethal in her hectic bursts. Her discography includes a collection of tapes from her own label, as well as releases on Opal Tapes, Hospital Productions, and Northern Electronics. Off the back of this, E-Saggila has showcased her live work across the globe. Going forward with upcoming works, her ascent is becoming sharper and evermore crucial. Eejungmi, the brainchild of interdisciplinary artist Katie Lee, is an electronic project that gracefully navigates emotional landscapes. As a versatile producer and classically trained musician, Lee has made notable musical contributions locally in Canada and more broadly in the USA. She co-hosts the party series ‘Nolja’ with Korea Town Acid, where she curates a space that highlights underground Asian producers and DJs. Katie’s distinctive blend of left-field techno, house, and ambient sounds, polished through her monthly radio show on n10.as, encapsulates her brilliantly diverse and eclectic musical tastes. Ben McCarthy: is a sound artist and computer musician. Taking foundsound as source material, his experiments in signal processing and emerging technology pull from the noise a sensual present that invites embodied attention. His music moves from abstract figures and lush idiosyncratic timbres to holistic ambient soundscapes. With Cale Weir he co-runs mainstream, an experimental music event in Toronto’s downtown. McCarthy’s art has played internationally at the Venice Biennale, Amaze Berlin, and Mayworks, while performance highlights include Sidewalk, NYC, Comfort Station, Chicago, the CCHHUURRCCHH, Nova Scotia, and Soho House, LA. Garden of Magic: Dora, a Toronto-based electronic musician, producer, and pianist known musically as Garden of Magic, is currently delving into research on the applications of AI in her artistic practices at UKAI Projects. Through her improvisational style, she weaves hypnotizing patterns that shift and transform in organic ways, as if moving through an ever-changing metaphysical landscape. Traversing various terrains of dance music, she brings listeners to a magical place where they feel uplifted, inspired, and compelled to dance, defying gravity. Big love to friends at Best In Town Sound for holding it down. See ya there!
