  • Cast your minds back to those blissful childhood days when jelly & ice cream was the greatest thing since… well, jelly & ice cream and all the kids at school would have competitions to see whose parents could give out the best goody bags at your Birthday bash. Well folks, those happy days are back as Together presents The First Birthday (Well, Sort of…) on Saturday 27th January and the Greatest Birthday Party in the World… EVER!! Together has long been lording it at Turnmills (5 New Year’s Eve on the bounce), but it wasn’t until January 2006 that our genre-busting club night went monthly. Fast forward 12 months and you’re looking at the mother of all Birthday bashes, with more trimmings than Gordon Ramsey’s Christmas dinner! F**k the stuffing, cos we’ve got… Free Together Goody Bags, (including party hats, Together keyrings, stickers, vouchers and anything else we can blag, oh yeah and those things that you blow out too!), plus Free Haircuts, Free Face Painting, A Giant Birthday Cake to jump out of, Laughing gas (naturally) and some proper old skool party games to play like Pass the Parcel, Musical Statues, Musical Chairs and Pin the Tail on the DJ. What more do you want? Jelly & ice cream? Cool, cos we’ve got that too!! Seeing as every month WE decide what the Fancy Dress Theme will be (Dress up as your Mum, make your own homemade Hat, get your best Sports threads on etc etc), this month seeing as it’s the Birthday, we thought we’d let YOU lot decide on what you wanted to wear instead. Therefore it can absolutely anything. Think of the most weirdest and wonderful ideas and then come as that. As ever, top prizes will be awarded to the ‘Best Dressed.’ So that’s the silly stuff covered then… onto the music. One thing we like to do at Together is mix it up and so for the Birthday we thought we’d go that extra mile (well, it’s a special night innit). The line-up then is quite a beast, kicking off in the main room with an exclusive DJ Set from NYC’s flamboyant electro art-pop group Fischerspooner featuring Warren Fischer and his DJing partner Jon Kane. Having made their UK DJ debut at Together a year to day, Fischerspooner have now become a part of the furniture and we couldn’t think of anyone better to celebrate our Birthday with. Joining them will be another returning hero – fellow American John Acquaviva, who blew the Together roof off back in April 2006. Since then, he’s stormed the latest DJ Mag Top 100 Poll as the Highest New Entry (No.22) and has had a blinding summer in Ibiza where his Acquaholic party has been one of the season’s hottest new nights. Together’s all-conquering, fancy-dress-wearing residents Justin Robertson and Anil Chawla supply additional firepower as they look to build on what was an amazing 2006 for them both. Look out for a live set from Justin’s new band Thee Earls in March and a shedload of production from Anil on ace labels including CR2 and GU Music. The beats (and bleeps) continue in T2 where the music policy remains as open as ever. Keeping the glow-stick boys and girls happy will the Klaxons who swing by for a spot of DJ revelry. The ‘New Rave’ (or whatever you wanna call it!) ravers are the hottest band around after a series of spectacular live shows during the summer. We’re also delighted to welcome Paul Epworth aka Phones to the mix. We’ve been after him for flippin’ ages, so it’s nice to finally get our man… and what a man he is too. Paul’s worked with some of the biggest names in business over the years including Bloc Party, The Futureheads, The Rapture, The Long Blondes, LCD Soundsystem, Plan B, Maximo Park and Death from Above 1979. What you want more? Ok then, he’s also worked with The Rakes, Simian Mobile Disco, Muse, Goldfrapp, The Streets, Tom Vek, White Rose Movement, New Order and Black Strobe. Phew! Body Clap records dude Touché cranks up the bass for the big finale, plus warming the floor early doors will be Nottingham’s Rioutous Rockers, the guys behind London town’s uber-cool ASBO party. We conclude in T3 – the home of the Midnight Ramble – the indie meets dance mash-up, brought to life with a smile by X-FM’s red-trouser-wearing John Kennedy!! This month’s ‘ramble’ is the Official After Party for John’s X-Posure Live All Dayer which is taking place at the Barfly during the day; and headline bands Brakes and The Horrors, will be making the short trip (with John) from Camden to Farringdon for a very special live show at the ‘Mills. Having supported Belle & Sebastian and Editors on tour last year, Brakes are certainly a hot tip for future greatness and we can’t wait to see them in action. Garage/Punk/Indie/Gothrock band The Horrors meanwhile join ‘em on stage, just ahead of their huge NME tour in February. Having already graced the cover of NME in 2006, this year should see the make-up-wearing-rockers feature on the pages of many more key music rags. Then there’s Sunderland giants - The Futureheads – who take a break from their recent UK tour to mix it up good on proper on the decks. With two acclaimed albums under their belts, expect the odd Futureheads track (perhaps Digitalism’s reworking of Skip to the End?) alongside a medley of sounds and styles to get the kids stomping their feet. With further DJ sets from the one like IDC and John himself we’re all set for one 'All Night Disco Party' (the name Brakes’ super smash hit single!) and the Greatest Birthday Party in the World… EVER!!
