- Marcel Fengler steps back into the booth to bring the certified realness. One of Berghain’s earliest residents, he knows every trick in the book and performs with the precision and focus of a veteran samurai. “Unleashed,” his most recent EP, more than lives up to its title; the productions surge with a cataclysmic intensity. Has Fengler ever been on the leash? Of course not. For him, freedom is a way of life. Berlin’s Amotik returns. Discipline is the name of the game; his productions and sets forgo the momentary adrenaline rush for hypnotic immersion, but within his thousand-yard-stare wormholes you’ll find pockets of infinity. Altær’s Auspex seals it. As a DJ, he demands your attention, with full throttle techno rooted in elemental power. Atlanta represents in STUDIO. Vicki Powell, the founder of Deep South ATL, steps up for a proper session. Powell has long been a force for exemplary dance music in the Big Peach and is frequently cited as an inspiration for many of its younger breakouts, including Ash Lauryn (who she brought on as a resident for Deep South ATL). No-fuss, hard-ass electro, squelchy house and shimmering analog synths; Powell keeps it real, focusing on musicality and tapping into that infinite flow. The Carry Nation’s Will Automagic goes solo. One of STUDIO’s most consistent artists, Automagic is talented enough to handle the room in his sleep. Fortunately, he’s always on his a-game.
