- Things are heating up in Bristol this June as Community Disc-O's is proud to be back at The Crofters Rights with more Boogie, Funk and Disco records to heal your soul. This edition we are pleased to be joined by Cardiff based producer / DJ / Record Collector: DON LEISURE aka THE AKH! DON LEISURE (Community Disc-O's, First Word Records) A man with many musical talents, Jamal aka Don Leisure (AKA The AKH!) has evolved considerably in the years he’s been DJing and releasing wax. Wether that's as a member of Darkhouse Family, pushing a modern fusion of soul, jazz, hip-hop, and broken beat (championed by BBC DJ Gilles Peterson), or his own solo and collaborative beat tapes (alongside the likes of Amanda Whiting and Gruff Rhys), there is always an undercurrent of deep digging and sampling knowledge running through his creations and DJ sets. Working side-by-side with deep record heads such as The Mighty Zaf, Jamal appears to have naturally obtained a keen ear for some of the finest sounds in global 70s Funk and 80s Boogie Jams and even on the rare occasion editing said jams into dancefloor weaponry. As is the case with his appearance on 'Community Disc #04', the fourth in the CDO whitelabel edits series, where for the first time Jamal's Disco edits alias, THE AKH!, makes a debut with the storming cut 'Clap Your Feet'. (Championed by the likes of Chicago Disco royalty and firm CDO favourite Mark Grusane). This eve is set for a rare and special Funk Boogie set from Don Leisure and not one to be missed for discerning diggers and disco dancers in Bristol! And of course, on the night Don Leisure will be joined by CDO head honcho Admin for that Bristol Disco sound to get the grooves flowin! Advance tickets are available now on Headfirst Bristol.
