Techno is often misconstrued, misquoted, and mishandled by outsiders, so for Detroit-based producer and DJ, Huey Mnemonic, protecting its legacy has become a pursuit. Growing up in Flint, Michigan, he inherited his education on funk, techno, house, and more from his parents and grandparents, sparking his obsession with sound as a youth. Channeling Sci-fi, technology, and the Black American experience into his work, his mission is to both preserve and add to the rich lineage of Detroit's sonic culture.
Choosing experimentation over sleep most nights, D. Strange works with an explorative approach and an unhealthy obsession with texture. Strange forms a warped world of cerebral and gritty techno. Indebted to the pioneers of Detroit and Chicago techno as much as the weirdo punk ethos in the midwest in the present day, the sound is raw energy imploding and emerging anew...endlessly.
