Hybrid Life present X with Art Department

  • X In mathematics X stands for the unknown, and it is the unknown, the undiscovered and the underground that Hybrid Life will explore with a new series of parties. Where the Hybrid Life Showcases happen just three or four times a year, these X parties will be much more frequent. For our first session we'll be jetting in the uber hot Toronto duo Art Department. Each X party will seek to showcase the talents of respected international players like these alongside artists from the rich pool of talent that London is currently blessed with. There’ll be a back2back set from Alex Jones and Rich NXT, two of the cities increasingly respected producers and DJs. While the relatively unknown Deep End Sound System complete the line up, stepping into the spotlight, which is where we believe they belong. ART DEPARTMENT Believe the hype. And if you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months get your arse down here and check out the hottest act in dance music right now. When Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White, two heroes of the Toronto scene, made their live debut as Art Department in Miami they literally blew away the assembled industry A List crowd. It was one of those fabled moments, Art Department had not just announced themselves, but also unleashed a raw, synth-driven sound that could very well be the future. Will Saul described the live show as “the best thing we’ve heard since we first heard Matthew Johnson.” Damian Lazarus has signed them up to Crosstown Rebels for singles, an album, and extras no doubt. While their first single ‘Without You’ has exceeded expectation, with its dynamic bulbous bass, and ever so haunting vocal. Made for a rave. ALEX JONES & RICH NXT Two regulars on the London underground scene for some time now, Alex and Rich have individually built respected reputations for themselves over the past few years. As well as running stellar labels Hypercolour and Glass Table Alex Jones has also unleashed a series of his own productions which have been championed by Dinky, Akufen, Markus Fix and Wolf + Lamb. A natural musician Rich is equally at home on a keyboard or playing the drums, as he is in a DJ booth, where he has a distinctive almost trippy vibe. His Fuse residency over the past couple of years has coincided with a fruitful period of music production. It was on Jonny White from Art Departments’ No. 19 label that Rich released The Visitor with Alex Jones, and the two will be reunited at X where they will play what’s bound to be an original and bang-on-point back2back set. DEEP END SOUNDSYSTEM X represents the unknown, and a large part of these raves is to bring in to the spotlight artists who may not have released any music yet, but who through their knowledge and skills on the decks display enough talent to suggest the presence of substance. Dan Lively, Nice guy Eddie, and Samuel Bellisimo are popular faces on the London underground scene. They’ve created their own parties LoOp and Mode:Play to hone their craft and shape their individual take on house and techno. Their three distinct yet connected visions produce a deep captivating sound. Their talent has taken them to Fabric already this year for a headline set at WetYourSelf, while in September they play the Desolat party in Birmingham alongside Loco Dice and Marco Carola. Now sharing the bill with Art Department they’ll ring out their deep, rolling sound on familiar ground in the heart of Shoreditch.
