Harbour Party 2010

  • Days are getting longer, sleeves are getting shorter and the signs of spring are all around with summer hot on its heels. Summer means treadmill queues longer than a nightclub toilet, and frantic planning for NYE. NYE means the return of one of Sydney’s premier NYE throw downs, the Harbour Party. Sydney harbour and the iconic Luna Park once again provide the unbeatable backdrop for the most excellent Harbour Party to celebrate NYE like no one else can. Providing the soundtrack to this year’s celebrations will be a host of celebrated musical muscle brought in from around the world and from our own doorstep who are sure to add the dance to the party. German power-house producer’s Digitalism will be bringing their synth driven dance floor infectious DJ set for their only Sydney appearance to help you whoop it up on the count down. Signed to French tastemaker label Kitsune, producing four massive singles including ‘Zdarlight’ and ‘Pogo’, and remixing artists including Daft Punk, Klaxons, White Stripes and Tiga, Digitalism has a huge reputation for flat chat tearing s*%#t up sets making this a must see show ! Busy spreading the good word at the Shanghai World Expo, Electric Picnic in Ireland, Pacha in Ibiza and shows in Russia, home grown, hit making, chart topping, heavy hitters Sneaky Sound System return to the shake up the Harbour Party. With their hectic recording and touring commitments resulting in bit of an Australian hiatus, Sneaky are set to reacquaint themselves with the locals, perhaps with a sneak peek at some upcoming material. Hip Hip Hooray indeed. Adding a touch of New York swagger to proceedings this year will be Dennis Ferrer. Beatport Deep House artist of the year, 2009 and Grammy nominated house music hierarchy, the New Yorkian is one of dance music’s most respected producers, remixers and DJ’s. With his latest single ‘Hey Hey’ reaching the top spot on the Beatport and Juno charts, Dennis Ferrer’s set will be an ear opening ride of hypnotic rhythm’s and bubbling bassline’s. Adding to the international flavour of this year’s Harbour Party, Naples native Riva Starr is set to unload his brand of world influenced house music mayhem. With releases on Fatboy Slim’s Southern Fried, Claude VonStroke’s Dirtybird and Jesse Rose’s Frontroom labels all in the same year, producers don’t come much hotter than Riva Starr right now. Get ready for a party in your ears that your whole body is invited to. If you need us to tell you who Goodwill is, you’ll probably be taken home after the 9pm fireworks anyway. 10 years and counting as one of Australia’s finest DJ’s, Goodwill has checked off playing at most major festivals, mixing a monster Ministry of Sound compilation, and having his production steez name checked by the Swedish House Mafia, Kaskade and Pete Tong. Pretty good. Luna Park’s harbourside location with the ‘best seat in the house’ views of the Fireworks, its much-loved rides, carnival atmosphere and heavyweight musical acts make the Harbour Party a New Years experience, not just a night out. No portaloo’s here folks. The musical line-up is just one of the many draw cards for this little shindig, just another dimension to a party that is sure to kick your 2011 off on one big, fat, ‘Jersey Shore cast in an Ed Hardy store’ happy note.
