Future Classic presents: Henrik Schwarz Live

  • Henrik Schwarz has a reputation as one of Germany’s most respected and innovative live electronic acts. His passionate performances combined with his iconic remixes of James Brown, Omar, Steve Wonder and Michael Jackson were more than enough reason for his return to Australia to play the Sydney Festival for Beck’s Festival Bar with Future Classic. Henrik’s productions and intoxicating live sets are suffused with the very stuff of life: rich with experience, possessed of untold depth and stuffed to the gills with music’s one true elixir - soul. A long time veteran in the German deep house scene DJing was his first love, opening his eyes, and ears, to the soul and funk records of artists like Marvin Gaye and Cymande, a love affair that exists to this day as demonstrated by his mix for the legendary DJ Kicks series, or his edits of Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers and James Brown. But a desire to breach musical and technological boundaries pushed Henrik into production where he forged a trademark sound marrying the power of contemporary dance music with his unique sense of subtlety and emotion. His remix of Walk A Mile In My Shoes for Coldcut on Ninja Tune became one of the biggest club hits of 2006, Leave My Head Alone Brain bridged the gap between jazz and techno, while his collaboration Where We At with Ame, Dixon and Derrick Carter marked the beginning of a fruitful and close collaboration with Innervisions. Henrik’s laptop has become his weapon of choice when performing, providing the opportunity to road test his prolific output of original material and remixes for artists including Unkle, Underworld, Jesse Rose, Tosca, Jazzanova, Boy George, Alex Smoke, Carl Craig, Booka Shade, DJ Hell among others. The incredible feedback from these shows resulted in a Henrik Schwarz LIVE album on !K7, an entrée as we wait with eager anticipation for his debut long-player. Future Classic have hosted nights at Beck Festival Bar for the past 5 years with artists such as Recloose, Trevor Jackson, Aeroplane, Jazznova, Clara Hill, DJ Fitchie, Holy Ghost! and The Idjut Boys and couldn’t be more excited to be kicking 2011 off with someone as prestigious as Henrik Schwarz.
