Optimo presents Hogmanay 2010

  • For NYE 2010 Optimo is returning to its roots, taking both itself and the Art School full circle, revisting and paying homage to one of the cities finest and most influential club venues as it hosts its final New Years Party. Assembly Hall (upstairs): "The Optimo Turbo Sound System" with residents JD Twitch and & JG Wilkes host the upstairs Assembly Hall all night! Vic Bar (downstairs): Optimo presents: The Hung Up! Ladies Lounge - hosted by Nadia Ksaiba (Say Yes) with DJ Mingo-Go and Madame Barbarossa (Babs to her friends). Since the very early days of the Optimo parties, the New Year celebrations have been an integral part of the Optimo calendar. The very first Optimo New Year was held on the turning point of the new millennium in 1999 and since then there has been a Hogmanay event every year, initally at the Art School and then for the last three years at the Fruitmarket. As the end of the first decade of that New Millennium looms Glasgow is on the brink of losing one of its most influential and iconic venues. One week after degree show 2011, the Glasgow School of Art's famous Students Association will close its doors as a massive demolition and rebuilding plan for the GSA begins. The Art School Union as we all know and love it today will cease to exist. The Glasgow School of Art Student Association has been at the very centre of the city (if not the countries) creative arts and clubbing community for the past 20 years. The Legendary Vic Bar has been the party venue of choice for almost every one of the cities emerging underground clubs, breaking bands and internationally know artists. In light of this significant loss, it seemed only right that Optimo return to the Art School and present the final NYE party that will ever take place in this extraordinary building. There is simply no other place to be. Optimo thought long and hard about how to best present this night. With so many great past guests to choose from, and so many new acts and friends to ask, the choice of what to programme was a difficult one. However what became apparent was that this event would be something more personal than just a party with a big name guest. Following the "death" of Optimo (espacio) earlier this year, Twitch and Wilkes felt this should be a chance for them to pay homage themselves, to both those early Optimo parties and to the Art School's historic place in the cities clubbing consciousness. Thus for New Years Eve 2010 Optimo will forego any big name guests and instead will host the upstairs assembly hall themselves with muscular production support from "The Optimo Turbo Sound System". While downstairs in the the Vic Bar will become the "Ladies Lounge" for the night, hosted by the inimitable Nadia Ksaiba (Say Yes), London town's Hung Up! resident along with with DJ Mingo-Go and Madame Barbarossa (Babs to her friends) all playing together to give a rousing Optimo farewell to this great venue. Optimo NYE 2010 will be spectacular and a fitting farewell to The Art School as we currently know it. More than ever Optimo's efforts will be focused on ensuring this event has the best production of ANY party in the city and this is where they will be concentrating the budget for the night. Optimo - we love your ears, and we loved your Arty. ++++TICKETS+++++ Tickets Scotland (Walk-up and online) http://www.tickets-scotland.com/ Rub A Dub (Walk-up and online) http://www.rubadub.co.uk/ The Art School (From the Vic Bar **Note: no booking fee when purchased here.)
