South West Four London 2007

  • From a backyard party in the company of 200 party-crazed Aussies, local police and environmental health workers back on June 2001 (!), to a sell-out crowd of 20,000 up-for-it clubbers on the glorious grounds of Clapham Common (for the 3rd year running) last August Bank Holiday… the South West Four gang have certainly come a long way since those humble, yet hedonistic early days. In the space of only 6 years, South West Four has shot through the ranks to become Southern England’s leading outdoor event and one of Europe’s most important dance festivals. 2006 was a historic year for South West Four – named after the London postcode it resides in, where tickets sold out in record time well ahead of the actual day of reckoning. In fact, over 5,000 people were turned away in total, as the realism of just how big South West Four has become really hit home. But why stop there? As part of the Metro Weekender (together with indie-dance day Get Loaded in the Park), South West Four also expanded last summer, with the first ever event taking place in Cardiff on the beautiful Coopers Field site (also on the same August Bank Holiday Weekend). The Cardiff leg was deemed an instant success with all 10,000 tickets being snapped up, as an all-star cast of DJs including Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold and Armin Van Buuren rocked the show. Back in London, Carl Cox and Paul Oakenfold did the double, as Pete Tong, John Digweed and Judge Jules also lead the troops from the front. We were also rather pleased to have picked up 2 nominations at the UK Festival Awards 2006 for Best Medium-To-Large Festival and Best One Day Festival!! As one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, South West Four 2007 will blow away everything that it’s ever done before on Bank Holiday Saturday 25th August, as this year’s line-up is by far and wide the greatest collection of globe-trotting DJs we’ve every assembled. Snap up your tickets now, whilst stocks last!! ‘GOD’ HEADLINES THE COMMON!! The World’s undisputed No.1 DJ (DJ Mag Top 100 Poll 2005/2006), Paul Van Dyk takes over the mantle from Carl Cox as this year’s exclusive South West Four festival headliner. Nicknamed ‘God’ by his die-hard legion of fans, PVD has been one of the most consistent DJ/Producers of the past decade, scooping multiple awards and accolades en route to rocking just about every country on the planet. He rarely plays in London, making his appearance extra special, plus with a brand new artist album on the way and with a brilliant back catalogue that boasts classic tracks like ‘For An Angel’… PVD really is the closest thing to God you’ll see in Clapham all summer!! The ma-hoo-sive main stage will also witness more A-List performances from the planets biggest DJs as Sasha returns after a year’s gap, together with Radio 1 guvnor Pete Tong - who last year hosted his own ‘Essential Arena’, whilst house music’s all time great Roger Sanchez makes his highly anticipated debut whilst house music’s leading live act The Shapeshifters serve up some brand new tracks from their hotly anticipated 2nd artist album alongside breakbeat dons Plump DJs for an afternoon assault, with rising superstars SOS – that’s Demi, Desyn Masiello and Omid16B showing us what can be done with 6 CDJ’s, 3 Mixers, 3 Laptops & 3 EFX units. ARENA CALLING… Although you can top up your tan whilst getting down to the sounds of the main stage, there’s always something rather unique about the ‘other stages’ on offer at South West Four, which this year sees a bit of a reshuffle. First up, we welcome John Digweed’s pioneering Bedrock brand to the Common to present a one-off ‘International’ adventure in associatiom with DJ Mag and Dontstayin.com featuring some of the powerhouses of the electronic scene. Step forward techno pioneer Josh Wink, South American master Hernan Cattaneo, the man behind Pryda and Cirez D – Eric Prydz, ‘This Is’ resident and veteran spinner Sander Kleinenberg, plus Bedrock fave Jimmy Van M from the States. As with the main stage, look out for more DJ announcements over the coming months, when another one of dance music’s true greats will be unveiled. Elsewhere, the Harderfaster.net featuring leading London clubs Gallery & HeatUK Tent and in association with dance music bible Mixmag will remain, offering the finest in tech-house and trance. This year’s chosen sons include Dutch destroyers Ferry Corsten and Marco V, Radio 1 rogue Judge Jules, plus the hottest new kid on the block – Sander Van Doorn. The fourth and final arena welcomes back The Ibizan Underground featuring Steve Lawler, Smokin Jo, Tall Paul, Paul Woolford, Martijn Ten VeldonPete Gooding and Aaron Baskervile. South West Four Cardiff – returns to Coopers Field for only the second time on Sunday 26th August and features more of the planets biggest DJs including Paul Van Dyk, Sasha, Roger Sanchez, Pete Tong, Eddie Halliwell, Marco V, LTJ Bukem, Goldie plus many more acts across 3 stages.
