His background in mathematics and engineering has given him a scientific approach to the dance floor, using frequencies, tones, and soundscapes to transform surroundings and mood. Luke's faith based music production has landed him a seat with FXHE and Beretta Music in Detroit. Hess followed up his first releases with original productions and remixes on Echocord Colour, Ornaments, Kontra-Musik, Modelisme, Pong-Musiq, and Finale Sessions. In 2009, Luke completed and released his first album, "Light in the Dark" on Denmark-based record label, Echocord. "Light in the Dark" received glowing reviews and was hailed by many as one of the best deep techno albums of the year. In 2010 he began his own interpretation of Detroit techno with his new Detroit project and record label - DeepLabs. In addition In addition, Luke performs in the duo Reference, whose releases on Planet E and Berettamusic Grey have received much praise in the underground dance world. With 10 years of DJ experience and notable LIVE sets, he is regarded as a perfectionist on stage, layering his tracks in a very detailed and hypnotic manner. Luke has played at notable venues and events such as Culture Box (Copenhagen), Panorama Bar (Berlin), Unit (Tokyo), Detroit Electronic Music Festival (Detroit), Fabric (London), The End Up (San Francisco), Golden Pudel (Hamburg), Sirup (Zagreb), Weekend Club (Berlin), Cubic Club (Madrid), Decibel Festival (Seattle), and The Bunker (NYC). Luke's continued hard work behind the decks and in the studio combined with his unyielding interest in technology and sound will no doubt stimulate the boundaries of electronic music. :: LUSINE BIO :: Jeff McIlwain's ever morphing musical project, Lusine, has been in existence for over 10 years now. Originally a Texas native, Jeff now resides in Seattle. In 1998, he attended Cal-Arts to study 20th century electronic music and sound design for music and film. Soon after, he met Shad Scott and put out a self titled release with Isophlux. Since then, he has been releasing his music on various labels including Ann Arbor's Ghostly International, Hymen, and U-Cover. His 2009 release on Hymen, Language Barrier, was somewhat of a departure, focusing less on rhythmic detail, instead highlighting the layers of ambiance that were only briefly touched upon in past releases. Jeff has also been involved in two recent film projects, co-scoring David Gordon Green's "Snow Angels" (with Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell, 2008), and scoring the film "Linewatch" (dir. Kevin Bray, 2009; with Cuba Gooding Jr., Omari Hardwick). McIlwain's much-anticipated latest album, A Certain Distance, was released on Ghostly International and went on to be one of the best reviewed electronic music albums of 2009. In addition to his own production, Jeff has remixed a wide variety of artists including Apparat, Tycho, School of Seven Bells, My Brightest Diamond, Lawrence, Alex Smoke, Funkarma, Alex Under and Pezzner. Jeff has performed around the US and abroad including a set at London's esteemed Fabric nightclub, Barcelona's Sonar Festival and Montreal's MUTEK Festival. In addition, Jeff is the only artist to perform at every Decibel Festival (seven years running). :: JON MCMILLION BIO :: Jon McMillion (aka "Wig Water Magic") has been making electronic music for over an decade, always calling on a vast cache of sounds, styles, and techniques to flesh out his tripped-out aural sensibilities. Since recent acclaim (Pitchfork, The Stranger, Textura) for his debut artist album, The Jon McMillion LP on Seattle based label Nuearth Kitchen, McMillion has been steadily pumping out left-field, techno, and alt-house floor-fillers the world over (Orac, Adjunct, Sunset-Diskos, and more on Nuearth Kitchen). One part dance floor enthusiast, one part reclusive studio sorcerer, McMillion's music has incredible range; the propensity to be very warmly progressive or coldly back-alley and alien. Most commonly known for diving into reverbed melodies housed around 4-4 kicks, shuffling claps and oddly balanced vocals, more often than not you'll find him reaching for the whole span of your sound palette. However one chooses to classify his peculiar aesthetic, McMillion's productions display many years or technical training and study, as well as a deep set passion for exploration and artistic expression. "This isn't the kind of sound that can come out of just anywhere. It needs community and roots to nurture its more esoteric or eccentric tendencies, and it helps to have distance from the world's principal club-music centers, where market tastes too often dictate the shape of the music. You can hear how that breathing room has benefited McMillion: This is one of the most confident, expressive, and rewarding albums that house music has seen this year." - Philip Sherburne, October 20, 2010 for Pitchfork :: JOHN JUDGE BIO :: Originally from Port Orchard Washington, John Judge has been calling Seattle home for the past three years. After becoming jaded with the machismo associated with the punk and hardcore scenes throughout the Northwest, he sought out a new form of expression and found it in electronic music. Artists such as Trentemoller, Sasha, and Terry Lee Brown Jr helped cement his passion for emotive underground dance music, which he DJs and composes for his own Timbreline Productions (founded in 2010). In addition to being Decibel's most recent resident DJ, John coordinates street promotions for the festival and related year-round events. :: KILLINGFRENZY BIO ::: Leo Mayberry has been composing, coordinating and performing live video for the last eight years as KillingFrenzy Visuals. Projects have varied from improvisational explorations with Steve Fisk and Greg Gilmore to complicated theater performance with the Degenerate Art Ensemble. Custom applications in Max/MSP/Jitter, and an eclectic catalog of material to draw from allow the flexibility necessary to thrive in environments from gothic ambience to breakcore meltdown. Use of mirrors, motors, and non-standard screen compositions are all ways he’s working to shatter the screen and release the image.
