Club Cosmique. Space Dimension Controller live + Kowton

  • Whether it’s true that Space Dimension Controller is, as he claims, a time traveller from the 24thcentury, temporarily stranded in our temporal space remains to be seen. What we know for sure, however, is that the Belfast-based producer – born Jack Hamill – has, over the last twelve months, been releasing some of the most intriguingly exciting electronic music to be coming out of the UK. His ’09 debut single, ‘The Love Quadrant’, was a retro-tinged, wistful-pop gem that pulled in influences from the melodic ends of house and techno with a driving low-end. Since then he’s gained praise from Kyle Hall, impressed with his unique loop driven mixes and released a stunning EP on R&S. The future is certainly looking bright for Space Dimension Controller – but he knows the future’s bright, because he’s been there, right? Gallops are where live electronics and jagged guitars meet on the floor. Taking influence from such drastically varied artists (Aphex Twin, Fugazi, Vangelis, Sun-Ra, Steve Reich...) goes someway to explaining the provocatively unique shape of this, their 5 track debut EP, which firmly stakes a claim on behalf of the 4 piece as 1 of the UK's brightest hopes.
