Niche Productions and Void present DMZ

  • DMZ is a sound, built by DIGITAL MYSTIKZ (Mala & Coki) and Loefah. A production outfit, record label and nightclub, DMZ is noted as one of the pioneering forces in Dubstep’s rise to its dominating force in Electronic and Dance music circles around the world today. On Friday April 8th the first DMZ tour of Australia hits Sydney and two of Sydney’s most innovative promoters unite to bring you this special event. Together, they bring you two of DMZ’s founding members, the mighty MALA and COKI, playing together in Australia for the first time. Digital Mystikz are at the forefront of London's Dubstep sound, leading the way with their own unique brand of dubbed out London sounds. Both derived from Jungle, Dub-Reggae and Garage yet brand new, the sound had emerged from London and spread a love of sub bass, skankin riddims and mystical melodies. As a production duo, Digital Mystikz have released a number of singles and collaborations on their own label and remixed Grace Jones’ ‘Love You To Life’, Fat Freddy’s Drops’ ‘Cay’s Crays’ and Skream’s anthem ‘Midnight Request Line’ as highlights in their catalogue. Their song "Anti War Dub" appeared in the 2006 film "Children of Men." Individually, Mala has a sound that is his own, best epitomised by genre classics including Bury da Bwoy, Eyez, Changes and countless others. He also runs the Deep Medi Music label as a side project to the DMZ brand. Coki invented the wobbly basslines that characterise much of present day Dubstep. His influence on the genre cannot be underestimated and to this day continues to dictate where the genre is heading. There are few bigger artists in the Dubstep genre than Mala and Coki. Since starting in March 2005, the DMZ club-nights attendance has increased steadily. DMZ's first anniversary, when a queue of 600 people forced the club to move from its regular 400-capacity space to Mass' main room, is seen as a pivotal moment in Dubstep’s history, according to Resident Advisor. The DMZ and DIGITAL MYSTIKZ experience hits Sydney for the first time on Friday April 8th at Oxford Art Factory with full Hijack sound.
