Louche with Jimmy Edgar & Fred P

  • We're armed with a scorching hot lineup this March, with two contrasting musical styles of pure quality stitched together in one night. We're more than excited to present to Leeds for the first time Fred P. Jimmy Edgar returns after a 5 year hiatus Detroit native, and poster child of sound couture Jimmy Edgar flies in to play us his revered live set. The producer, designer and fashion photographer has seriously been blowing up over the last two years; his unique and provocative ultra modern sound environments turning heads the world over. Last year's album XXX on K7 records is a unique electronic masterpiece; Prince fused with Magda, oozing sexual energy and analogue warmth; it gets our vote for one of the albums of 2010 without question. Releasing since 2002 on labels such as Warp, No 19, Playhouse and even Minus, Jimmy is quite simply on fire right now. He'll come to us the week after playing at Bloc Festival in Bristol, a future music extravaganza featuring some of electronic music's brightest stars; Jimmy will be in great company. Jimmy's 'Hot Raw Sex’ will no doubt sound so good on Mint's mighty system, we can't wait! On a 'research' trip to Berlin last December we witnessed Fred P play one of the best sets we have ever witnessed. The New Yorker took it down in Panorama Bar, and we decided there and then to bring the guy to Leeds. Coming from a musical family in Brooklyn, Fred is an artist, but not in the traditional sense. Science and philosophy play a large roll in his approach to music and life itself. Choosing to present rawness over the pristine, substance over style and vibe over formula is the very definition of the projects he brings to life. Working on music for the last twenty years, Fred is part of the new school NYC house scene that also includes Jus-Ed, Levon Vincent and DJ Qu. Fred's sound is deeper than the ocean, highly emotive and brilliant. His cuts on Underground Quality, Esperanza and his own imprint Soul People Music have left critics and DJs scrambling for superlatives from all angles, either as himself or as his alias Black Jazz Consortium. We can't wait for Fred to touch down and teach us a lesson in deepness. This promises to be a night of differing styles, extreme musical creativity and fusion. Fred P making it down for his Leeds debut and Jimmy edgar makes a long overdue return after a 5 year break from Leeds. Get down and see what all the fuss is about!
