Silence Crew LIMITED GUESTLIST: Email your names to: [email protected] (very limited places, so be quick) THOMAS MELCHIOR (Perlon/ Lick My Deck) Born in Germany, Thomas Melchior raised in the USA, Spain and finally England. At school he also started his musical career as composer/singer and keyboardist before moving to London where he soon formed his first Jazzfunk five-piece band (Blipvert Bigtop). Releasing records on his own Label (Earworm) they performed in London warehouses, clubs and pubs. After getting married and becoming a father, Thomas"s next project Ohm experimented with and fused electronic and funkadelic sounds with soul and jazz. Catching the attention of the likes of Africa Bambaata, Acid Jazz and Talking Loud"s Gilles Peterson. Ohm"s ‘Heady Volt Experience EP’ had a strong influence on the later emerging trip hop scene (James Lavelle, Mo Wax often mentioning it as a blueprint). But times were a changing and Melchior moved on to pioneer and explore other moods and grooves. With the arrival of a computer, he began to discover the world of reduced music making, leading him to work and hang out with weird beat master J. Saul Kane (Depth Charge, Bomb The Bass), introducing him to the early London acid house and warehouse underground. He hooked up with people like Peter "Baby" Ford, Mark Moore, Big Audio Dynamite, Carl Craig etc… soon he was on his way to making tripped out electronica. In "92 Thomas hooked up with multi instrumentalist Tim Hutton and started recording as Vulva/Yoni. Quickly Vulva caught the attention of the Aphex Twin"s Richard James and his Rephlex label, who promptly released the now legendary ‘From The Cockpit’ album. Vulva/YONI basked in the lights of success releasing records on San Fransisco"s Reflective and Germany"s Source Records as well as gigging alongside Armando, Aphex Twin, Black Dog (Plaid), Autechre, Global Communication, Orbital etc. As the years went by Thomas" musical interests shifted towards producing more minimal deep- and tracky style house tunes and after touring the USA as member of Lady Miss Kiers" (Deelite) band, Thomas moved to New York in 1996 familiarizing himself with some of the American house and techno scene before returning to London in "97 to work with old friend Peter Ford. With the releases quickly mounting under various pseudonyms namely Deepah, Sunpeople, Soul Capsule (all Trelik), Ifach Collective, M-core (all Ifach) etc., Thomas established himself as a pioneer of minimal house. His more personal London speed garage influenced deep hypnotic and sexy micro house cuts set a new manifesto on his label Aspect Music in 2000. His sound soon was reaching cult status, being supported by producers/DJs like Daniel Bell, Luke Solomon, Ricardo Villalobos, Akufen, Richie Hawtin etc. By now Melchior Productions was being released on the mighty Perlon and Playhouse labels in Germany. During the years Thomas also followed some of his other interests and studied to become an astrologer, masseur and sculptor. In 2003 Thomas moved from London to Berlin after having set up a second home in Brasil, where he now has a new family. Throughout Thomas"s career he has stayed dedicated to the underground, maintaining a low profile, allowing him to stay clear of trends and thus remaining, after more than twenty years of music production, at the cutting edge of music. AKIKO KIYAMA live (Contexterrior / Lick My Deck) Akiko was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1982. Educated in Classical Music from a young age she grew up surrounded by that culture. At the age of 14, she became absorbed in the Drum & Bass scene that was occurring in London at the time. From that moment on she made a commitment to club music, to pursue and evolve with the ever changing sound of techno. Since 2002 she has created her own tracks with a laptop and began performing live sets in Tokyo. Her first solo EP "Dimension", released on Sud Electronic in October 2004, received great reviews by top world class DJ’s. In November 2005, one of her tracks was licensed by M-NUS, having been personally selected by Richie Hawtin for his critically acclaimed "DE9 Transitions". In 2007 she moved to Berlin continuing her commitment to dance music and to further develop her style. Several singles were released in 07 on reputable labels such as Safari Electronique, Contexterrior, Lick My Deck, Neopren etc and more on District of Corruption. One of her signings to Lick My Deck was chosen by Booka Shade for the highly respected DJ Kicks compilation series on K7. 2008 has been an establishing year for Akiko as she has released her first album on District of Corruption called "Seven Years" it is a reflection of everything she has learnt and her musical experiences since 2001."Seven Years" will further establish her as an emerging talent, albeit one who shows every sign of someday becoming a major one. SHAUN SOOMRO (Lick My Deck) Shaun’s involvement in music started at an early age as a DJ on London’s vibrant underground radio scene, his weekly slot on ‘Rude Fm’s Saturday show enabled him to showcase his talent to a wide audience, the beginning of which saw him go on to play at some of London"s most legendary clubs. The End, T Bar & Plastic People have all played host to Shaun’s sets as well as an array of European venues. With a background that encompassed working at Major and Indie labels as well as in vinyl distribution, he decided to take his experiences and use the tools that he had gained to create something special. Shaun set up Lick My Deck in the summer of 2007, a label that focuses on releasing intelligent and provocative electronic music. Working with some of the most respected producers in the scene the label has gone from strength to strength and is set to go further. 2009 marked the labels entry into London’s party scene at east London institution T Bar where Shaun has been able to showcase and play along side artists like Baby Ford, Thomas Melchior and Bruno Pronsato amongst others. LMD have more exciting projects lined up in the not too distant future so stay tuned. Shaun’s sound is deep and hypnotic yet dark and funky, this is a skill Shaun has honed by knowing his music and constantly keeping his ear to the ground, playing across the board from Techno to House to Minimal to Disco, his sets constantly entertain and never lack in energy, a surprise hidden around every corner. SILENT COLLECTIVE (Silence) Guys behind Silent Collective are the Silence founders Juraj and Brano joined by Romanian Silvian whose love for the music and music sharing got them together behind decks and nowadays they perform their back 2 back sets around London.
