Louche with Soulphiction and Arto Mwambe - Live

  • Were back in the smoke after two sell out shows and we've moved venue in search of better sound and aesthetics. We hop over to the The Camp for our next London gathering, and we bring with us underground house luminaries Soulphiction and Arto Mwambé (live). Michel Baumann AKA Soulphiction entered his DJing career through a passion for hip hop. His exposure to Larry Heard and Lil Louis whilst working in a record shop in the early 90's changed his musical perspectives however, and Soulphiction productions now echo these housey influences, yet still contain hip hop, jazz and disco undertones. Work as his alias Jackmate maintain more 4/4 club-orientated music, and it was under Jackmate that he released his first beats- way back in 1996. With releases on Perlon, Poker Flat, Playhouse and Sonar Kollectiv it is clear to see how well respected Baumann's music has become, and he still remains at the top of his game to this day. As well as DJing and producing, his collaborations with Suzana Rozkosny now make up a Soulphiction live set- Suzana'a deep soulful vocals washing over Michel's diverse beats to wonderful effect. And let's not forget Philpot Records- the label he founded, and has been running for the past decade. Artists such as DJ Koze, Move D and Bruno Pronsato have all made music for the imprint, and it is fair to say that Philpot tunes have not left our boxes for quite some time. We can't wait to see the man in action, DJ appearances are not too frequent these days, so we're honoured to get him over. Next up Arto Mwambé live. Phillip Lauer and Chris Beisswenger are instrumentalists proper—a rhythm & blues combo for the dance floor. Their live show packed full of warm melodies and 808 kicks never fails to impress. See "Greatest Love" & "N No R G" released on their widely acclaimed album Live At Robert Johnson for proof. The album released in August 2010 was received very well from all corners getting spins form a who's who of house music. How did it all begin? They ran into each other in the early 2000s and started to produce music together in 2004. Their first highly acclaimed 12" 'Girl You Know It's Arto Mwambé' 2005 they caught the attention of Trevor Jackson who immediately hired them for a remix on his legendary Output label. Soon after this they founded Brontosaurus, the label that became the perfect home for the next three Arto Mwambé releases. More remixes have since been completed on Spectral, Tiny Sticks and XL Recordings, cementing the guys into a very well respected position on the house music map. We welcome the guys to perform their Live Set in the intimate surroundings of The Camp. Although were in a new venue the drill is very much the same, late license, intimate 250 capacity basement with two artists of pure quality. The Camp boasts a meaty sound system and cosy atmosphere that will suit Soulphiction and Mwambé's sound to a tee… spaces very limited again so be quick to jump on this one! ;) TICKETS: Advanced tickets are available to buy from Resident Advisor right here.
