From the mid 1970s through to the early 1980s, New York City was arguably the epicentre of contemporary culture and music.
And as Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger and Liza Minelli partied at Studio 54 in Manhattan, DJ Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa and Grandmaster Flash were uniting the youth of the city at the block parties in The Bronx.
Meanwhile, on Broadway (and later in Soho) David Mancuso’s Loft parties, and in Tribeca, Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage, were pushing things in a similar yet different direction, as they edited disco records into the earliest forms of house.
Francois Kervorkian is one of the few DJs to have played both the infamous Studio 54 and the legendary Paradise Garage, and has gone on to start two nights of his own that have become synonymous with the New York club scene - Body & Soul and Deep Space.
The Body & Soul sessions he hosts with Danny Krivit and Joe Claussell continue to impress to this day, whilst his Deep Space night at Cielo creates a space for him to experiment with his sound.
The night has played host to everyone from Carl Craig, DJ Harvey and Henrik Schwarz, to Joy Orbison, Kode 9 and Mala, blurring the lines between house, techno, electronica and dub on a weekly basis.
Following on from parties with Larry Heard, Moodymann and Kerri Chandler (not to mention Juan Atkins, Space Dimension Controller, Linkwood, etc), Black Atlantic help Francois K bring Deep Space to London.
FK will be playing a six hour set, with a few friends helping warm things up early on, as we take full advantage of Plan B’s impressive Funktion 1 soundystem.
