Colony & Scand Bank Holiday Special

  • Not content with a humongous Friday night knees-up at Corsica Studios, we've taken it upon ourselves to keep the bank holiday vibes rolling as we team up with Scand for a monster May Day showdown at our old haunt Rhythm Factory, for FREE. It's a strictly house/techno/electro affair, with Colony keeping things 4/4 in room 1, and Scand taking care of the 808s in room 2. Considering the line-up we've assembled, the lack of door charge is simply criminal. Stamina crew, get ready. Headlining room 1 is our good friend Matt O'Brien, who's been flying the flag for true-school British techno since 2005. A recent EP for Belgian tastemakers Curle, limited-edition live show LP action, forthcoming Off-key wares and a gig locked in at Tresor mark something of a career highpoint for the London-based producer, who'll be bringing along hardware aplenty for a typically raw and jacking live PA - perfect for all you unhinged Sunday rave scallywags. Hot on his heels is another London-based techno auteur, Phase, whose work for Token really is amongst the best uptempo dancefloor gear currently out there (check his latest EP, Subtext, and see for yourselves). Not a man to mince his beats, he'll be bringing a bag of the finest dance-hard-or-fuck-off machine funk to sort the chin-strokers from the fist-pumpers, so get your best stomp ready or prepare to be annihilated. Support comes from Perc Trax stalwart Truss, making waves at the steppier end of the techno continuum, Bristol's Asusu, whose increasingly 4/4 tendencies will be on full show here, and Colony residents MB and CB, dropping all kinds of old/new/unreleased deep-end business. Meanwhile in room 2, kicking on from a bumping January bash at Gramaphone, Scand will be slamming out the old-meets-new-school electro as they welcome back Rephlex/Breakin's singular DMX Krew, a wizard DJ who'll soon be gracing Tokyo's Unit, and Pyramid Transmissions boss and Touchin' Bass/Ai regular ADJ. Support comes from residents Sync 24 (whose Cultivated Electronics imprint goes from strength to strength), Innume, agent2 and Steve Allman, all of whom know a thing or two about 'floor-spanking mutant funk. If you're keen to end the weekend grinning and doused in sweat, this is this is the place to be. Lest we repeat ourselves, entry is free, the finish is late, and, what's more, Rhythm's drinks are nice and cheap. Factor in a primetime E1 location, friendly staff and, most importantly, quality sound, and you've got yourselves a proper no brainer. Be there! [-]
