Pearson Sound / Ramadanman and Zed Bias Aka Maddslinky

  • Sub.mission Presents Surefire SOund Pearson Sound / Ramadanman David Kennedy's work as Ramadanman and Pearson Sound has been a positive scourge on the airwaves this past year. His current deviation from any kind of conventional 'dubstep' template hasn't come as a shock for anyone who's been following his career from the start - he's always had a particular slant and a percussively textured style all of his own that's often layered with thick and potent bass frequencies and synth washes - but it seems like with recent material like 'Work Them' (released on Loefah's Swamp81 imprint) Kennedy is simply toying with the world's expectations of him. As a key component behind some of the most daring dancefloor music released in the last year, both as a producer and as a label owner - Kennedy co-runs the Hessle Audio imprint, alongside Pangaea and Ben UFO - he's travelled the world numerous times over releasing music by key producers like Joe, Elgato and James Blake as he's done it. Scoring his label a well respected residency at London club, fabric and more recently, starting his own vinyl only night called Acetate in Leeds, his knack for working over a dancefloor shows no sign of waning. Finding the perfect space between bass bin and monitor he's constantly innovating, refusing to sit still and feeding off all kinds of temperate influences - from old house to Chicago juke music - and the end of 2010 sees him hording an array of productions that are absolutely battering soundsystems, radio shows and eardrums alike. -------------------------- Maddslinky / Zed Bias In winter 2010, Maddslinky was chosen to co-host BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra's Dubstep Takeover night with Mista Jam - testament to his status as one of the godfathers of the scene. He was also heavily referenced in the same station's two-part 'Story Of Dubstep' documentary. January 2011 brought the second single from 'Make A Change'; "Further Away" featuring Tawiah was finally released in its own right, with a cutting-edge stash of remixes by Falty DL, Hint, Illum Sphere and more, gaining fantastic reviews and more high profile radio play. If Maddslinky is the deeper side of Dave Jones' musical mind then Zed Bias is the out and out club music; music MADE for dancing. Ragga and breakbeat infused garage hooks and infectious bassline rhythms combine to make the finest and most cutting edge UK club music. Continuing a flourishing partnership, Jones has now signed his Zed Bias alias to Tru Thoughts, and the new album, to be released mid 2011, will feature collaborations with Skream and Warp Records Mark Pritchard, aka Harmonic 313, aka one half of Africa Hi-Tek - plus exclusive artwork by Boo Cook of 2000AD/Judge Dredd/Marvel Comics fame. -------------------------- Moldy A native of Portland, ME and seasoned inhabitant of Boston, MA and New York, NY, the “New England sub assassin” and “New York City dubstep pioneer” (thekronicle.com, 3/3/10) is known far and wide for his mind-bending DJ sets and deep, dark, thoughtful bass music productions. A “veteran of American dubstep” (flavorwire.com, 4/19/10), Moldy has been at the forefront of the US dubstep movement since its inception, sharing the stage with bass music innovators including The Bomb Squad, Skream, Plastician, Mala, Loefah, Pinch, Distance, Starkey, N-Type, Breakage, Digital, Dara, Dieselboy, Headhunter, Joe Nice and Dave Q. Moldy founded Heavy Pressure Recordings in 2006. His latest release on the label, Pegasus, a dubstep/rap hybrid featuring MC Dynamo-P, is praised by Big Up Magazine as “bass music at it's finest, in all its restrained, bleak glory,” and is available now via all major digital outlets. “He is in demand around the world,” (renegademag.com, 10/1/09) traveling to perform in cities including London, Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Hartford; “but still gives Portland, Maine the privilege of the best in dubstep,” (renegademag.com, 10/1/09) organizing the city’s original dubstep party, Heavy Pressure Night, since 2008. --------------------------- ServOne Serv One, aka Marty was born in Europe, raised in Canada, and now calls beautiful Denver, Colorado his home. Marty started DJing in the mid 90’s when he and his cohorts started DANK DEALZ Radio at their local Montreal University. Upon his arrival to Colorado, Serv One joins long established Denver Drum and Bass Crew, Turbo Alliance while maintaining residence in the nearby Rocky Mountains. Marty re-finally re-settles in Denver and joins forces with Mz2Phresh, Budros Gali & Mike Honcho (RIP) and Ron Raygunn in the early stages of SUB.MISSION. Heavily influenced by the soul in old school hip hop throughout their early youth, Marty and fellow cohorts start, what was back then, hip hop radio show Dank Dealz. Shortly after college, Serv One dabbles in UK Garage/2 Step before adopting Drum and Bass music as the rhythm of life. Serv One refines his skills as a DJ with local Denver DnB DJs Guy, Onket & Jdub (aka Budros) and Rapid MC (DJ Pressure) to name a few. Several years before dubstep begins to take over the world, Serv One revives Dank Dealz Radio on the fledgling internet station www.dubstep.fm. Serv One’s DJ style is deep, but highly technical; his selections and mixing ability make his mixes an emotional voyage and his live performance and exhilarating roller coaster ride. He frowns on DJs that play 10 tunes in 1 hour, don’t put on a show, and can’t mix. He and fello0w Danksterz (Dayquill, Rumbl Junkie, Budros Gali, Subliminal & Dodger) can be heard every Saturday on www.dubstep.fm at 420pm (MST) as they host the highest dubstep radio show in the galaxy, DANK DEALZ.
