Quality with SCB vs Scuba, Martyn, Deniz Kurtel

  • SCB vs. Scuba ushers in a regal, hypnotic, skitter-quick style of post-dubstep not easily heard this side of the pond. It's the sound of illegal tagging happening on a proper yet staid establishment-so, so good to see and slightly, quietly satisfying. It's the sound of techno, soul and dub coming apart at the seams, then ever so effortlessly weaving itself back together, undetected by those woven it its grasp. It's intense, intelligent and infectious, and it fits perfectly within the legacy of AYLI parties gone before. Hear its ferocious roar inside the Funktion One valley of Public Works's ground floor. Or wander upstairs to hear the gyrating pop flick of Crosstown Rebels' Deniz Kurtel and let her jazzy, warped house-infused layers set you mindlessly grooving while time goes by unnoticed. Her Wolf & Lamb disco snarl will meld perfectly with local Re:body resident Briski's sarcastic beach party style and Paxahau-turned-AYLI resident Rich Korach's irrefutable gift for genre origami, not to mention Kenneth Scott's blissed-out soulful house (of cards) shuffles. In the same vein as the Banksy-esque Brit headlining as two halves of himself that night, Dutch-meets-D.C. producer and artist Martyn brings a worbling, shimmering, almost downtempo-dub style whose tracks have recently been mixed by both Flying Lotus and Ben Klock! (Wrap your head around that range ....) A canonizable, robotic ump just waiting to be bound and foiled. Rounding out the talent is Epcot, a cuts-curator whose taste piles the mild R&B B-side love song atop the hushed-then-bombastic frazzle of A-siders like Joker and Shlohmo, artists whom he's also played alongside locally. Likewise, Mossmoss brings the darker, driving edges out of techno - minimal at times, but always playfully artistic. PUBLIC WORKS: Our Mission as we stalwartly step forth: GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT ! As You Like It (AYLI) is the result of a shared taste for quality electronic music, late nights and experiences that focus on cutting-edge sounds by today’s most driven artists, while striving for and acknowledging timelessness.
