  • (re)Chicago Returns: Panorama Bar Resident Cassy & Kate Simko “Lights Out” LIVE A/V Tour Recognized around the world for its vital contributions to the development of House music, Chicago is renowned for musical innovation and solidarity in the eyes of the international electronic music community. With the combined talents of veteran DJs Mazi and Kate Simko, along with promoter Nadia Podolsky of VOLATL, (re)Chicago has put the global eyes back on Chicago – helping the city re-assert itself through its visionary, collaborative event series, which launched in April 2010. After a six month hiatus, (re)Chicago makes its highly anticipated return to Chicago’s legendary nightspot Smart Bar on June 3, 2011 with Panorama Bar resident and Cocoon Recordings artist Cassy, who will make her first Chicago appearance since 2008. (re)Chicago resident Kate Simko will co-headline the night, making June 3 the official stop on her worldwide LIVE A/V tour promoting her upcoming album, “Lights Out” (Hello? Repeat). Sasha Navarro, vinyl muse from Gramaphone Records, will open the night. Pre-Sale tickets for this exclusive evening are now available at Smart Bar. Cassy is an internationally recognized DJ and producer. Her production credits include collaborations with Steve Bug, Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, DJ Elin, Dave The Hustler, Mathew Jonson and Swayzak. She has a diverse body of work on such highly regarded labels as Playhouse, Perlon, Ostgut Ton and Cocoon. Cassy also runs her own self-titled label as an outlet for her unique sound. In addition to her work as a producer, Cassy provides vocals for many of her tracks. In2011, along with her recurring presence at Panorama Bar, Cassy has additional residencies at Rex in Paris and Trouw in Amsterdam, the city in which she currently resides. When it comes to her DJ sets, Cassy doesn't subscribe to any certain genre, instead she embraces all sounds from house to techno. Her approach to any dancefloor, whether it be for 30 or 3000 people, is about creating a distinctive drive balanced with a sense of warmth and soul. Cassy entices her audience to the dancefloor with a groove and then, with each new track, she gently guides the listener into the present moment. For Cassy, DJing is about presenting herself through her mixes and track selection, to intuit her environment and go with the flow of the changing energy in a room. It's why crowds all across the world now recognize Cassy as a truly special talent. In a sometimes generic scene, where the emphasis can be on fitting into a mould, Kate Simko continues into 2011 as one of the most imaginative, captivating artists making electronic music today. This Chicago native, and (re)Chicago resident, is a long-time core artist of Spectral Sound and Ghostly International. Simko’s first full length solo album, “Lights Out,” is set to for release on lauded Berlin-based imprint Hello? Repeat in May. For the album release tour, Simko's musical performance will double as a live cinematic event. Each song will have a unique video that is created in real time based on Kate’s music. The performance is more than a live set; it doubles as a live collaborative film based on the music of Kate Simko under the visual direction of Jeffrey Weeter. Simko’s music, inspired by images and locations, is transportive. The shared experience of journey, real or imagined, will be heard and seen through Simko’s evocative score and Weeter’s live cinema. Ensuring creative continuity while also opening avenues of collaboration, the final work will be a performance that freshly remixes the film’s content. An experiment in non-linear storytelling and real time creation, the work transfers the excitement of live music to a cinematic experience. This very special live performance is not to be missed. Sasha Navarro opens up the night.
